Koh Tao murders: Night crime simulation at Sairee beach to look for clues

All indicates that this was not done for a sole individual...and that's make more difficult to hide it. Money rules. This is a small Island. ..

Just offer 100.000thb for any information leading to the capture of the criminals and the Police will have many leads to follows. If the the murderers are local guys, probably did this before, and somebody knows something about....or was a survivor victim of them....

Good idea..offer a high reward or bounty...but then again that could set a trend in Thailand.

Just read the local police are going to call in the American FBI to help them. Not sure how that's going to work out, as the FBI will have to totally run the show and keep the incompetent police out of the crime scene, or what's left of it.

Though, since no Americans were killed, I don't know why the FBI would assist. Perhaps this is just more nonsense coming from the Thai media.

Police seek help from FBI on DNA

The Nation September 20, 2014 1:00 am
Say the US has more sophisticated equipment for Koh Tao murder hunt

Police will request help from the United States' Federation Bureau of Investigation to test semen found in the body of a female British backpacker brutally murdered on the resort island of Koh Tao this week.

DNA testing technology in Thailand could only identify whether human secretions came from a male or female, said deputy police chief General Somyot Pumpunmuang, while the FBI had "sophisticated technology".

"We will ask the FBI to help identify the DNA in the semen we found - whether it belonged to an Asian or European," he said yesterday.

The bodies of Hannah Witheridge and fellow British national David Miller, both 24, were found on Monday morning on Koh Tao, in Surat Thani province. Autopsies revealed they were brutally beaten, while Miller was drowned during the deadly attack.

Somyot, who will become police chief next month, said he would travel to Koh Tao today to inspect the crime scene and follow up on the latest developments of the investigation.

"This is a big case and the premier has been very concerned about the matter," he said.

Meanwhile, residents on Koh Tao are offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the killers, Koh Tao mayor Chaiyan Turasakul told Agence France-Presse.

"At this point we are offering Bt50,000 for anyone who can provide clues which leads to the arrest of a suspect. The money comes from donations from the people of Koh Tao," Chaiyan said.

Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha said in his weekly televised address to the nation yesterday that he had ordered police to bring the culprits to immediate justice.

"Progress has been made continuously although it is not known yet who are the killers," he said.

"The authorities concerned have been assigned to ensure safety at tourist attractions. People and volunteers must also engage in assisting and monitoring for the sake of safety."

Somyot revealed that the latest inspection of the crime scene unearthed a cigarette butt at a spot on the island where traces of Witheridge's DNA was found. He said it was likely that she met her attackers at the spot and had a conversation there.

Pol General Jaramporn Suramanee, an adviser to the Royal Thai Police Office who visited Koh Tao on Thursday, said on that day that several pieces of evidence had been found at the scene.

He visited the scene after DNA samples collected from the body of Witheridge did not match those of the 12 suspects.

Jaramporn was speaking after searching an area near the crime scene towards the sea during low tide on Thursday night.

He simulated what might have happened including focusing on the distance between the location where the bodies were found and a hoe believed to be the murder weapon.

Witnesses near the crime scene told police they saw three men near in the area on the night of the murders.

A tourism police commander, Maj-General Atichai Ti-amart, said police were also looking for a foreign woman captured on CCTV running near the crime scene.

Police investigators continued to gather more evidence yesterday, focusing on trying to identify an Asian man seen in CCTV footage at the time of the murder.

Thread number 13 on page 1 alone that is directly related to this story. Is anything else happening in Thailand, or is there some agenda at work here? Repetitive information, constantly pushed up to the top of the page.

As far as I know, reading and participation to TV is voluntary. The agenda for me is choice.

"I'm not in charge and just passing through".

Probably just a nod to the FBI forensics lab being the best in the world.

Thank you for joining and sharing this information.

Seems AC bar is of interest in this matter and in general.

UK officials need now to insist these local thugs are brought in for questioning and CCTV cameras that have footage examined in full.

If no arrests are made and this story runs cold or worse some Pasty found hung with a confession note by the chair or tree -

The fall out will run deep.

And this go down as a travesty of justice and snub to not just westerners , but civilisation and humanity as a whole.

To shelter barbaric criminals and try stitching up a westerner .

To arrogantly refuse to consider Thais as possible killers in this case.

To Botch evidence and then degrade the victims

Is unforgivable and a diplomatic incident and international manifestation of true Junta disregard for justice and freedoms

That is no overstatement. This is an appalling incident with international ramifications and Thailand must be made to pay.

.

International ramifications? Thailand must pay?

I bet you got an A+ in your HS Drama classes, eh? ;-)

Why should Thailand pay? What are they being billed for exactly?

For not knowing how to raise it's people in the correct manner.

There are no prisons in your own country?

How idyllic--what a strange perception it must give you on the rest of the world where man habitates.

A conviction in this case would be worldwide news and produce front page headlines, big photo's and major tv coverage in the UK. The country of origin of the criminal/s concerned will receive very bad press. The story would run daily from arrest to trial to judgement. It would be a significant blow to tourism in Thailand if a Thai person were to be convicted. Therefore, if a foreign 'perp' cannot be found, the temptation will be to allow the matter to cool off, go cold and be forgotten.

There are people who can never forget and our thoughts must continue to be with them.

That is a preposterous claim to make.

The police officers who crack this case and bring the attacker(s) to justice is going to be highly admired and respected and be professionally acknowledged by fast track advancements.

You and your darned silly conclusions. Do TV posters lose their minds after arrival to LOS or before?

Has anyone considered tracking new arrivals?

The police also were sceptical about the blood stained hoe used in battering the two tourists to death.

A police officer said normally a criminal would throw away any weapon used in the murder to destroy evidence. But in this case, they were astonished when the hoe was not thrown away, just lied near the log and covered with a sack.

The murderer struck the victims with the hoe and then put it back to hide at the place, which was very unusual, an officer said.

This indicated that the murderer was a cold blooded person, he said.

Keep making public statements like this guys. It just shows your total lack of experience, and that you are unqualified to investigate a crime of this nature.

Maybe the investigators are trying to look like 1970s TV series character with the rumpled raincoat, ever-present cigar, bumbling demeanour and Sherlock Holmesian powers of deduction, disarmingly polite homicide detective Lieutenant Colombo. He took on some of the most cunning murderers in Los Angeles, most of whom made one fatal, irrevocable mistake: underestimating his investigative genius.

DSI should automatically take cases of tourist murders. It's no good leaving it to local law enforcement.

Yes, absolutely, because everyone knows that Tourists are more important than the Thai people and their grieving loved ones.

I absolutely love the overtly racist and sense of superiority that abounds here amongst this well-educated group of TVers who espouse Justice with every other breath.

If you want to protect tourism, DSI should take the cases. Far to many unsolved cases.

Don't call me racist, my kids are Thai.

I read earlier on BBC News that RTP had asked for assistance from the British police but Scotland Yard were yet to confirm the request.

It's the best of a bad job and I sincerely hope the Yard dispatch an investigative team to the island.

I further hope that they assist in convicting the perpetrators and that the sentence is death. Just my personal feeling.

1. they were found naked, but they did not leave the party naked

Where are their clothes?

She wasn't naked or wearing a bikini as the general suggested. Her top was pulled down and her skirt was pulled up. Looks like the rapist wanted to see / touch her breasts and then lifted her skirt to penetrate her. The images show her legs wide open as if she was killed while the rapist was on top of her. Heart breaking.

The male who was murdered was totally nude, laying on his back with his legs straight in front of him.

The gruesome pics are online, I came across them by mistake while looking for more reliable information. Wish I hadn't. Shame on whoever leaked those.

Your comment was racist whether you intended it that way or not.

All vixtims of violent crime deserve a thorough investigation...it should not matter their place of origin, economic status, religion or any other darned thing.

Yep you found them accidentally but couldnt wait to jump on here and share the details with everyone who lacked the perverse nature to want to know such things.

I for one don't care to hear your graphic explanation of what the killer "desired".

You won't get that with the RTP and the DSI can't deal with all cases. If you want to protect tourism such high profile murders need proper investigation above reproach.

If the DSI had gone straight into this one not nearly so much damage would have been done to tourism and they might have even caught the killers.

I have not read any evidence to support your claim that "so much damage has been done".

To the contrary, a recent Nation article indicated the tourists from Britain are still coming here in droves right now when this entire matter is top of the headlines.

Why?

Because everyone collectively thinks it was a "one off" and the probability of it happening to them is very very low.

By any chance do you have large quantities of idle time to ponder?

It's a good thing everyone can skip any post they choose. However, you choose to read the details of what I saw, so there you have it.

The logical question to ask would now be, why would you read such a thing if you really didn't want to? You could have stopped at any time, but you didn't.

I hope I'm not being racist, but the more evidence we hear, the more this speaks "gang" to me, meaning Thai gang.

How many Thai gangs can there be on such a small island?

How many non-Thai gangs? Oh yeh, we can all guess that one, so ......

What is required is the willingness to believe this could be Thais, followed by a willingness not to be bribed, if it's proven or has been proven that these are members of one of the island's "Big" families. My guess is people are being sheltered. However, others, including other "Bigs" might become less than happy, willing to reveal, if it's felt that the island's tourism is finished. I'm not sure that's true, but it's certainly the message that should be put out. Totally finished, finished to the degree that will affect the "Bigs", as well as the "smalls". The only worry is that scapegoats will be found by either the Police or "Community", to clear the thing up. Truthfully, how cleared it will ever be in the terms that Thai tourism will be effected (which is all that Thailand really cares about) is a moot point. On overall tourism, there will probably be little effect. On "hedonistic" island tourism, there may be a little more. For Koh Tao, whilst, truthfully, it won't be finished, things won't be too good, at least for a time.

Fully agree with you but the ban on Parties should be extended to Koh Phangan as

well. Those parties are a billion baht business for the the people here and not having

that income would be devastating.

Although we do rely entirely on tourism and would suffer badly, at least for a while,

a stop to the parties sure would make locals clean up the Islands a bit from trash,

I feel a warning shot would make some people think twice how to control themselves

and their community,

We might eventually even get "real" tourists again, people who come to relax and enjoy

the beauty of this islands and not just people rushing from one party ghetto to the next

getting ripped off wherever they go.

Sure you did.

Just like everything else in life, those who make the most noise about something are usually knee deep in what they are crying about. You probably Googled the images if you haven't downloaded them already.
