If the deposit passbook hasn't been updated for over 6 months, does anybody know if Bangkok Bank only print the aggregate balance of transactions over that period rather than the individual transactions in the passbook? Or do you need to order a statement from Bangkok??

That's a good question.

I've never waited that long to update a BB passbook.

I think you had better call their customer service number for their specific policy.

I do know that KASIKORN bank prints aggregates ... very annoying!

Well I can tell you from personal experience that when you use the machine and a certain number of months have gone by, the machine will absolutely NOT include all transactions! Also even on their website statements going back for three months are shown only. To get more you actually have a pay a fee to have a printed statement sent.

Years ago, I didn't do one of mine for two months. Had go inside to update it and they printed out the report for oldest month on paper and only updated the last month in my passbook. Said they can only do one month at a time. And because sometimes it was possible you might run out of pages and also need a new passbook. Then what do you do....go inside anyway.

Several years ago I believe you could only get a new passbook from the district your bank was in. But I think that policy has changed also for some banks.

1. you step into your bank

2. you find a nice bank person

3. you tell him/her about your losses

4. it will be immediately printed, but on separate sheets, not into the book.

That's it.

Bangkok Bank online can only go back six months for printout so not sure teller can go back further - I have always had only last total printed, and expect that is normal, but that is my preferred to save on passbook usage.

Yes, I usually update my book to ensure deposits are printed out, but I recall a long time ago letting it go for awhile and the machine consolidated all activity for some of that period.

I had mine updated recently after several months and they printed one aggregate entry for all those months. There is probably some cut-off point, but I've no idea what it is.

In Japan at Mitsui-Sumitomo Bank, every credit and debit is printed in your passbook even if it hasn't been updated for six months previously. Now I'm worried about my Bangkok Bank account since I'll be updating my passbook for it for the first time in six months this November.

I will tell you exactly what happens as it happened to me 3 months ago.

My bank is Bangkok Bank Main Branch in Silom.

I was at Cheung Wattana Immigration downstairs Bangkok Bank for the usual letter and update my passbook.

My passbook was full and required a new passbook. The last entry on it was 19/11/13. I was issued a new passbook and the first entry on it is 04/07/14. The date that day was 10/07/2014.

So they updated my book with the previoous weeks transactions, that is all.

I imagine if you need to show other transactions you can ask the bank but I have found that if you have internet banking and a printout of transactions from the internet that this will suffice.

Hope this helps.

Why would anyone need a bankbook nowadays, not been using mine since there was internet banking, can check everything back what happend and my monthly payments are done within a minute by the app they have for the phone..

If you can navigate tv than internet banking should be possible to

I have never updated my BB passbook in the three years that I have had it. When I go for the annual visa extension at Chaeng Wattana in addition to the letter from the the Bank I ask for a report of daily activity and balances for the previous 60 days. Immigration has always accepted it without a complaint.

As already mentioned it's need at immigration if using a bank account to prove income for extension purposes....I use it each year when doing my retirement extension of stay using the Bt800K in the bank method. Also, many people still do not use ibanking or even have or use internet, especially the older generations and poor. Heck, my Thai mother-in-law can barely figureout the basic buttons on a TV remote, don't have a cell phone...land line is all she wants....has never used an ATM but goes to the bank teller instead. And her sister who lives next door is pretty much the same way except she does have a very simple cell phone. I could go on talking about the many good people who live in the mother in laws village and the very simple life they lead...and ibanking is not part of that life.. Plus, a passbook gives a person a warm fuzzy and record of their savings...it's all many want. It's a big world out there and many are not internet literate...not everyone (not even close) use the internet and the benefits it offers.

All they really care about is the money meeting the minimum amount (Bt400K or Bt800K) and seasoned for the required 2 or 3 months.

I too do my retirement extensions at Chaeng Wattana and every immigration officer I've had looks at the passbook closely, especially looking to see if the money is seasoned for the required period of time. And for my passbooks since I used fixed accounts there is partically no activity shown in the passbook other than the opening deposit and the forced update done by the bank on the day they generate the bank letter.

And a couple years ago when I rolled over a fixed deposit account within the 3 month window of applying for an extension it created some tense moments when the immigration officer specifically pointed out the money in the new account had not been seasoned for 3 months but after showing the officer the passbook of the matured/closed account and how it rolled the money over into the new account same day she was satisfied.

And for this renewal which I did a few weeks ago and since I'm using a fixed 15 month savings deposit for income there had not been "any" activity since Sep 13 other than the forced update to the passbook the bank did the day they generated the bank letter.
