Durex Thailand apologizes for inappropriate Facebook post

BANGKOK: -- Durex will consult with an independent group of medical professionals and consumers to ensure its communications are “appropriate and respectful” after a Thai marketing campaign prompted widespread outrage.

The century-old British condom brand announced the move as it reiterated apologies for a marketing graphic shared on Facebook with an invented statistic saying “28% of women who say no give in at the end.”

“It absolutely goes against everything we stand for,” said a statement released by Durex Thailand today. “As a strong advocate for healthy and respectful relationships, we have the utmost respect for women and are committed to helping people love sex safely.”

Durex reiterates that we sincerely regret and apologize for the inappropriate and offensive post made on our Durex Thailand Facebook page recently. They are amazingly out of step with the rest of the world.

Extremely large donation needed for some women's protection agency about now. Or countrywide education on a 'no means no' campaign.

How can these type of marketing campaigns get by without being checked?! Unbelieveable.

Gotta admit, this is good, shameless marketing. Steer up some steam and watch those numbers roll in. They knew what they were doing all along!

Shame on Durex for saying that 28% of women give in. They know that number is higher.

Ban them?????Just 'cos of a silly advert........ they're the only suppliers that have condoms that come close to fitting a farang!.......all the others are just saving latex!!

And you have to read a Durex as to figure that out?My wife is a good mother and wife, yet somehow, several times a month she turns into a sex object and she never objects.

So they are saying guys have a 28% chance of success.........

Agree with the sentiment, but the other brands available here are either too small or split on contact.

In other countries head would have rolled. The same has to happen here. Anyone in the management knowing about this should step down. They have clearly shown that they don't have common sense and food judgement.

With Tourism in decline, soon not to be needed. As these where for real men, not under- developed Asian men.

Try to imagine Durex would have had to pay for this exposure? Brilliant strategy considering that there is NO bad advertising.

Hope this does not impact on the rubber industry in Thailand as they said there is an over supply of rubber and struggling farmers
