Hospital check up packages

Featured Replies

This week I'm going to bhumrungrad hospital for my yearly check up.

It's been 2 years actually.

This package is not bad

https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/health-check-up-bangkok-thailand/check-up-packages

It's £ 320 which is not a lot. Considering its your health

I could do the general blood test in UK with doctor however takes up to 4 weeks now to get an appointment. WHAT!

London does have the highest waiting times.

On top of this. The last month I've been always tired. Like waking up then after 3 hrs want to sleep again.

Apart from checking for a vitamin D deficiency.

Is there anything else I should check for?

check what other blood tests they do compared with a top hospital back home ,

and just have then add what is missing !

ohh and maybe have them check for skin cancer signs if you have been out in the sun a lot when you were young.....

I have no idea how many sunburns I had as a kid and get it checked every 6 months

Bumrungrad is probably the most expensive choice in Thailand for a health exam, I used to get mine done there years ago until I realized it wasn't good value for money and I could get the same thing elsewhere at half the cost. What clinched it for me was the last year I used them they substituted the cardiac health test results from the previous year, because the there was a problem with the printer read out! I subsequently encountered quality issues there and got tired of paying 2,000 baht for a simple consultation. Lastly on this aspect, the health exams at Bumrungrad are a conveyer belt and the consultation at the end is very rushed, as others will no doubt tell you, it's all well and good having the tests but pointless if you can't have someone interpret and explain the results accurately.

Having said those things, it's worthwhile going to a decent hospital (it doesn't have to be the best known) and paying a package price, in subsequent years you can go to a smaller lab or hospital and get the blood tests done very inexpensively, you should expect to pay about 2,500 baht for all the blood tests shown on the Bumrungrad health exam. Finally, in Chiang Mai for example you could expect to pay about 8,000 baht at a decent hospital for those tests.

BTW I have no axe to grind with Bumrungrad, they were very efficient when I had a cardiac procedure there five years ago, I just think there are better and more cost effective choices.

Exactly my objection.

I have several times known them to miss important findings and incorrectly tell the patient they were "fine".

Not IMO the best place to get an intelligent, thorough assessment of results, though the tests will be done OK.

Samitivej is very good in that regard but pricey. St. Louis is where I went last time and was OK.

What were the prices, Sheryl?

Actually Thailand is not the best choice for such checks as very few doctors have experience with such skin cancer - best to find a qualified doctor first - and that would be much easier in the UK. If need to do here best to be very conservative and ask that they test anything remotely suspect - test cost is not that much extra over just removal.

As for poster believe consultation with a good doctor prior to testing would be the better choice - he can arrange standard testing if he believes helpful and/or specialized testing based on interview answers. As mentioned testing alone is almost worthless regardless of the cost if not properly and professionally interpreted to patient. We can do a lot with Google; but it is no substitute for a good doctor for anything beyond the obvious.

My Doctor at St Louis Hospital was trained in the UK and practiced there too.......but yes most would not have much experience with skin cancer....

After reading lop buri ' s post.

Decided against a package and just see a doctor.

All blood test ok.slight enemia.

But the vitamin D test was back at 14.00 hrs so I said email me.

Now waiting for doctor to phone me and advise further.

At a level of 15. This most likely the problem why I'm always tired.

As for health package s

All the main hospitals are roughly the same price.

Some really good advice here, and I would only suggest you get exactly what you need at the best price. If you only need some blood work and a piss test, many small clinics can do all that at a fraction of the cost. The reports have all the same details (normal ranges, etc). And with an internet connection, you can research all you want. The down side is that if you have any abnormal readings, you definitely should go see a doctor to help you understand what might be going on.

So

What worries me here in Thalamd, is all foods are either heavily Salted or Heavily Sugared...

DEFINETLY not good for ones health,....

Especially as one gets on in life....
