Koh Tao murders: Police free bar owners and look for ex-village headman's son

My wife has family that live on Koh Tao and Koh Phagnan.

She had a chat with her cousin yesterday on Koh Tao and everyone there knows who did it. Probably known since the day after the crime.

Therefore, the police must have known too.

Only conflicting info from her, was that it was the nephew of a village headman ??

Looks like they will get the right people eventually though, more due to international pressure than good police work.

RIP the deceased..

So your base your theory on village gossip.Thailand runs on gossip and this forum is certainly not immune.

I don't have a theory and village gossip is a lot more accurate than 4th rate journalism.

But you decide for yourself.

Who are the police looking for btw, is it a relative of the village headman? smile.png

I think the police have turned over a new leaf and are going to pursue this case, no matter where or who it leads to. I believe it is because the army has their back; both to support them and to keep them on the straight and narrow path of righteousness.

If they can bring in the guilty parties and make a credible case against them (no matter who is their father), it will go a long way to restoring respect and confidence in the RTP.

You say the police have turned a new leaf regarding the case? Sure after nearly 2 weeks of trying to set people up, ignore the fact Thais could be involved, local enforcement probably covering things up, ignoring help from outside such as the FBI and having the entire world breaking their balls, good on them... thumbsup.gif

Sorry but I have no respect for them whatsoever, they handled this in a typical Thai manner, it was a circus and laughing stock, horrific images were leaked, the crime scene was a shambles with regards to how it was fenced off and investigated, the GENERAL and his outstanding bikini comment and who can forget blaming the victims friend on the grounds he was a potential homosexual. Yep, looks like Koh Tao and the rest of Thailand has a booming future

The FBI!! No self respecting country would allow a foreign governments police force to meddle in their internal investigations. And the whole world is not breaking their balls. The world consists of more than the UK and US....The PM made an error due to his lack of experience with foreign media. The Thai police are doing their best. And yes. Koh Tao and Thailand has a booming future ahead of them......Heinous crimes happen everywhere not just in Thai.....

What rubbish - most western nations have quite good co-operation between their respective police forces and most of those police forces have a somewhat better reputation than the Thai police as well.

What rubbish, when was the last time FBI where called to UK or Aust.Maybe when suspect escapes to USA,they would be asked to help.FBI wouldn't fit anybody up would they.

Has anyone asked the police why they allowed influential persons onto the crime scene during the investigation ?

so they could contaminate the crime scene and have a valid reason for their dna/foot prints to be there, the police have to let their bosses eliminate any possible guilt

The village headman obviously wanted to give his son a 10 day head start. And of course there is no mafia. How this was missed with 600 police is beyond words.

Nothing new.Australia just had raids on suspected terrorists,800 cops,2 arrests.

I have friends on two of the islands that are permanent residents. I also have a friend in Bangkok police who is currently on Koh Tao. They all advise they knew who did this by lunchtime the day the bodies were discovered.

They knew it was Thai it was mafia and specifically who, as the elder of one of the families met with police early on to construct a deal.

Everything we have heard by the police so far has been an attempt to divert everyone's attention. Participants and audience alike. Please do not think the Thai police are stupid. They are extremely manipulative. The latest diversion tactic is now to blame social media so we all lose focus and begin discussions on the topic of social media. It's important that we actually ignore what they are saying now and comment on what they are doing. It will actually reveal a hellofa lot more than their spoken words grandstandings press conferences and p.r. The fact that the popo chose to allow information tampering head starts etc is ludicrous and I can advise the people on the islands are also disgusted but terrified to tell the truth.

Sean would not have spoken up either I can assure you. Only he was smarter than your average pot head and did not trust that the police who simply took him back to his room would not come back for him later. Credit to him he knew the ways of the locals well and saved his life by spending a night in the jungle away from where the police could find him.

In the midst of this horrendous situation I wonder if the Army and those that run the country now have any idea of how they are viewed in some parts of the world. I come from the UK and people I know there are just horrified and disgusted. Friends in Holland feel the same. I don't know of any facts but I read about police corruption etc., and I don't want to believe it but the way this has been handled has brought shame on what in the main is a beautiful country. People writing in saying'everyone on Koh Tao knows who did it'. well if that's the case then why are we in this situation? And if the army are 'in control' why are they not down there kicking some backsides about to get to the truth? And what is a 'headman'? Is Thailand still living in a feudal system?

The damage that has been done to potential tourism not only to Koh Tao but Thailand in General may never be repaired in the eyes of those of us who are watching on in disbelief. Can we quote Keith Emerson but just change the name of the country and say ' Thailand is pregnant with promise and anticipation, but is murdered by the hand of the inevitable'. I was here when the coup took place. I am not personally in favour of military intervention in any democracy but something did have to be done. Since then they have quietened it all down and that us good and they seem to be doing ok, but please Mr Prayuth, get this one sorted before Thailands credibility has gone for good.

My views on how the west is dealing with Russia is similiar to yours on Thailand.A few sanctions, big deal, wait til they slow the gas down in winter and sanctions will come off and plane crash will be forgotten.A headman is what you would call a Lord, people with power because of connections going back centuries.

Everybody just boycott KT,plenty of other places to go.

Their is only one way of solving this case,,,,, Sean must return, under protection. Problem is he knows who did it,,, The Thais know that he Knows.

He seems the type that would not have the guts to do it for his country,,,And the last thing the Thais want,is him back here,as he would be able to

clear this mess up,and finger the culprits.

Maybe protection of the British Embassy Bangkok,I dont know if this is possible.

TheThais are thrashing about figuring who they can pin this on and not have him rat any others out.

What garbage ..... another TV bar stool judge at work.

The Thai police have sufficient evidence to charge as indicted the two suspects in question.

DNA results will become available within the next 24-48hrs and as such may provide conclusive evidence to warrant pending murder charges.

wai2.gif

If the headman and his brother are guilty, I wonder why they didn't flee as well. They seem to have been willing to give their dna sample. The son on the other hand, is looking guilty by fleeing. I wonder if it was him and his mates that carried out this horrible crime. Hope to see that dna result very soon. If it's not them, they can probably get a close match to implicate the son. I hope so, as it looks like the police have run out of suspects.

Remember the English mate that "fled" last week with suspect scratches,he was guilty last week.

Unhelpful !

This case is very serious and difficult to follow. I have a sense of humor but I do not think these threads are the place for any humor or sarcasm at all - unless you want to confuse the story even further and force people to lose interest in it - which is what they want us to do!

I have to say it again....Thais DO NOT LIKE foreigners especially westerners.

Murders, rapes, robbery to non Thais means absolutely nothing to them.

anyone remember the Saudi 'blue diamond' affair....? Google it [Thailand and the Saudi blue diamond] and you will see what these people are capable of.

We all know the police have been made to look foolish throughout this investigation but I would also say the same about Thailand's English language press which has been filled with inaccuracies, conflicting stories, confusing reporting and poor use of the English language.

'We all know the police have been made to look foolish throughout this investigation ...'

Poor English; wrong tense! The Police made themselves look foolish; they needed no help. The Press should be heavily criticized for reporting rumours and non-facts and for the disrespect they continually showed the victims, their families and their friends.

Since when have news papers anywhere shown to be sensitive,eg any Murdock rag you care to name.

The guy with the analogy from the Jaws movie was bang on the money. They cant have anything like this in the media just before high seasons. It truly sickens me. I , like many on this forim have been here a while (a lot longer than my TV membership suggests) but I have never been so disgusted and outraged at the incompetentcy of policing and lack of sensitivity of the TAT. Im a property owner and involved in the tourism business but I am falling out of love with Thailand at an alarming rate.

I can only agree. The whole thing also makes me sick!

But now we do not have to worry anymore. because The Minister for tourism and sports is now coming to Koh Tao to restore is image and everyone will be happy again.

If I was in the tourism business like you, I would honestly be worried. This place is going down the drain, when it comes to foreign investments and tourism. And it is not something that is coming, it has already started long time ago. Tourism has gone down with an alarming rate and it can no longer be covered up by false statistics. Add to that this case, which clearly shows that nobody really cares about the tourists here (except their money). Thailand is not what it used to be and it will get more hurt, as more and more tourists find other destinations, that are more welcoming and safe to be in.

I couldn't agree more...... tourism to Thailand has been falling for ten years. It is now expensive, the land of smiles has become a land of money grabbing rip the tourist off sharks, with dark sinister undertones. Hundreds of women raped each year at Full Moon parties according to the Australian embassy, most go unreported. Why go to Thailand when you can go to paradise islands like the Maldives and Mauritius for half the price and with less travel from Europe. Thai tourist industry is sunk.

Memorys are short, tourists partying while the bodies where still warm.

Maybe it could be Sean and the thai locals did it together. He is a convicted kiddie fiddler so might not of been involved in the rape.

Be very careful what you post here. He was convicted of possession of teen pornography, and not kiddie fiddling as you so crudely put it.

Police wasted enough time testing the DNA of women - the tourist was raped, arresting foreigners and interrogating foreign workers. That allowed one of the perpetrators to escape. The CCTV image of an Asian man running wearing the pants of the murdered man should have raised alarms right away. Enhanced images of the faces could have led to the arrest of these men much sooner if the police knew what they were doing.

In the twenty years I've been coming to / working in Thailand thisis the worst international incident in terms of reputational damage I can remember. And it starts with the brutal killing of two hapless innocent Brits partying on the islands as part of their life's game plan. It is beyond shameful that it has got this far - if this remains 'unsolved' and the guilty parties are not brought to justice then as a bellweather signal as to the capabilities and outlook of the Junta there can be no better sign. The world is watching time for action.

"No self respecting country". ......but Thailand is shown to be not a respectable country by the disgraceful manner in which it's government and it's police force has acted in this case. If Thailand had any respect for the victims and their families they would be begging the FBI or Scotland Yard for help. Britain has so far shown great generosity of spirit in not condemning Thailand and not warning its citizens to avoid the country as it is clearly lawless and dangerous for women. That generosity may not last much longer.

It's all pointless speculation. coffee1.gif

I've no problem with ThaiVisa posting the latest 'news' as a stand alone read/headline. That is admirable . . . but really, what's the point of letting it go beyond that simply for the army of armchair online Lt. Colombo's to conjure up half baked scenarios & solutions. The mind boggles. Oh, wait a minute . . . got it . . there's lots of lovely ads to look at (and click on) in between these sherlockian posts. whistling.gif

How do you think the investigation would look, if there wasn't the world wide media attention that it currently got?

By now, 3 Burmese would be on death row.

Unfortunately, by holding the investigation to public scrutiny and ridicule it may have forced the hand of the police to do more.

Certainly the scared Brit posting on Facebook got their attention.

Sypnosis script for conspiracy lovers.....

A young and open minded farang couple went to a beach spot for fun....

They danced and flirted in typical young foreigners way, perhaps after few drinks...

One or some of the boss's family or spot's staff on the dance floor, said something offensive or touched the girl, and her boyfriend reacted loud...

They got upset....and shared the feelings with the spot bouncers....

3 of them were told, or decided, to "take care" of the farangs outside the spot...

They follow the couple to the beach and waited for the opportunity to confront them....perhaps just for a beating...

They found them..naked..having sex...

The girl's boyfriend reacted, and they killed them ...raping the girl ...and run.

They informed the "boss" about what happens...

They got out of the island the same morning...and probably out of the country the same day...

With "professional" help, the boss tryed to put the blame in no local people....but DNA was the only link to the murderers..

The criminals never were found...or were found much later... and matching the DNA...but DEAD.

Case close...

DISCLOSE:

This is a fictional work, and not specific country, town, boss, or authority, is named.....

It is sounds familiar, it is because can happen in any place on earth, and to any people....
