What's the situation as regards longer term parking (eg. 1 week)? Is it still in the open air carpark? Daily cost? I've asked the attendants there but have never received a sensible answer and there is nothing helpful on their www site.

Costs are on the CNX website here - http://chiangmaiairportthai.com/en/296-parking. 200 Baht/day and it is all open air parking. Usually you can find a place at the very south end or else keep driving around until someone opens a spot up.

I seem to remember costs almost doubled some time ago.Not really a good option for anything else than a short stay ie hour or 2 for picking up .I think most people now leave the vehicle at home and

catch public transport back and forth. I park there when going to Immigration and its usually pretty full considering this is low season.

Someone suggested that the airport has another 20 years at its current location ,if so they will have to do something about the parking availability situation

Parked there for 4 days on recent 90 day run to KL and as above costs=total of Bt 800 which I didn't mind since it saved a lot of mucking about.

Got there early morning and area beside International Departures was pretty empty and left the pick-up almost opposite the main Inter.terminal entrance doors.

Getting back around 5-00pm it was "chocker" although nothing parked in front of mine so 10 minutes later was on the way home passing Promanada...anything for an easy life..

Parked there last week (700 baht for 3+ days) but got what literally looked like the last parking slot at extreme south end. Many were double-parked, presumably with handbrakes off. This looks like an issue not to be ignored if you want to catch your flight.

Opposite Immigration in the service station, quite a walk if you have bags and will cost a few baht depending on how long.

During the middle of Chinese New Year arrivals parking was horrendous.Hopefully they will do something, its not like they don't have plenty of land inside the perimeter fence back towards Tesco.

........then again ????

I almost missed a Bangkok flight a month or so ago. Saturday around 1.30pm. Not a single spot and about thirty cars were cruising looking for a spot. I ended up dumping my car at Tesco on Hang Dong Road & managed to get a Songthaew to drive break neck speed to the airport. Got my check in with two minutes to spare. My partner picked my car up from Tesco later the same day. Will not risk attempting to park in the airport in future. Seems like the car park is almost permanently full.

According to the interview with the current governor in Chiang Mai News recently, another parking lot is planned pretty soon.

Otherwise, Tywais is being very disingenuous recommendng the South end! He likes to park at the North end and get a burger at the airport when he visits Immigration !!! So, you wouldn't want to get his space now, would you!! tongue.png

Multi storey car park at the existing site would help.

Yes it would but why go to that cost when there is plenty of space available to the left of the airport buildings (facing it) A smallish shuttle carrier could easily go back and forth.

The other problem looming is the size of the "arrivals area" for international flights, its woefully small in peak times as we experienced during Chinese New Year..

As an aside Swampy just got voted 47 out of 50 for worlds best airport .TAT wont like that.

I'd offer a guess that a taxi or shuttle to most airports in the world are a better option than parking one's car.

So thats yet another of the "good reasons to live in CM" crossed off the list then?! Five years ago you could park at the airport easily, you could drive around the city without fear of gridlock, and you didnt have to get in line at four in the morning to renew a visa !!

Oh well, it was fun before CM became just another busy city in the big world we live in !!

TAT won't give a flying ---- they'll just turn the table upside down and lie like they usually do.

Holy thread bump batman,  I'm near Chiang Mai at present and have to fly down south for a couple of days next week. I understand the car parking there is still horrendous following on from the above posts.

I last parked there about 7 years ago and there was plenty of space (until I got back and found they had opened a market around me!)

I also understand that there is a cheaper alternative for car parking near the airport- does anyone have any Info on this or advice on a sensible LOCAL solution?
