Photo Mj-bird.PHUKET: -- Around 400 Chinese holidaymakers are currently stranded temporarily in Phuket after two aircraft’s from Jet Asia Airways had problems. Two hundred and thirty five people were unable to fly out to Shenyang as scheduled at midnight last night after it was discovered that the radar in the aircraft was broken. All the passengers were offered free rooms at the Royal Phuket City Hotel.Meanwhile, another Jet Asia Airways aircraft broke down in Saudi Arabia. A replacement aircraft was sent there. Unfortunately, because of landing permit delays it arrived in Saudi Arabia long after expected. That aircraft was due to have been used to carry 206 people from Phuket to Tianjin, but was unable to do so, leaving another 206 Chinese also stranded in Phuket. They were offered free accommodation at the Phuket Town Inn.A spokesperson for the charter airline said that the radar on the first aircraft would be fixed by this afternoon and the aircraft from Saudi Arabia would arrive at about the same time, allowing all the passengers to be carried home. Suradit69
Takes less than 30 minutes to change the radar. Always assuming one has something at hand with which to change it . A roll of duct tape always comes in handy for wobbly bits. Edited September 26, 2014 by Suradit69
Kabula
A retreating worldwide economy is creating cash flow problems in my opinion for airlines. It is affecting maintence combined with buying cheaper parts. I believe we will see more delays in the future sadly.

rickirs
Malasia Air was heard to offer one of its aircraft so long as no one minds that it doesn't come with radar or any other kind of working avionics.

emilymat
Are things that bad in Phuket that a hotel can instantly provide accommodation for 230 passengers? Just curious.
westsail
It could happen to any airline, any where...... Maybe. But it's uncommonly bad luck for a commercial airline to have 40% of it's fleet out-of-service for unscheduled repairs at the same time.

BlueSkyCowboy
Takes less than 30 minutes to change the radar. Sure, every 7eleven sells aircraft radar units. BTW, I have flown many trips with 4 engine jets without radar. Of course it depends on the WX

A roll of duct tape always comes in handy for wobbly bits. This is not duct tape. The special tape on the wing is called "100 mile tape", but it holds at 500 at the right place and on the top of the flap it does just fine if applied properly Edited September 26, 2014 by BlueSkyCowboy
malt25
Duct tape & 100mph tape are one & the same. Several grades & quality. I'm sure if you were admiring the scenery as you taxied for take off & saw tape on the wing you would feel comfortable & just ignore it.... yeah, right !!! stevenl
Are things that bad in Phuket that a hotel can instantly provide accommodation for 230 passengers? Just curious. In September, at the lowest point of low season, big hotels like that, sure they can accommodate.

Of course it depends on the WX These type of parts are usually available in the inventories. BTW, I have changed many radars on jets with more than 4 tires.
