Butterball boneless turkey breast

Friendship has some small (< 2 kg) Butterball boneless turkey breasts in their freezer section ...all the way to the back of the store, freezer unit against the wall to your left.

They are microwavable @ 30% power for an hour or less with one turning. Just double check the package for "boneless" if you plan to microwave. A lesson I learned two years ago.

They're pretty good if you want a bit of turkey for the holidays and don't want all the production involved in roasting a whole turkey. I bought three for the freezer (they easily keep in the freezer for extended periods) since they tend to disappear as the holidays approach.

Just a head's up.

In years past I've also found them at Central supermarket next to the foodcourt, but again the small boneless roasts tend to vanish quickly.

Hi Suradit,

What did you pay for them?

The three I bought were all around Baht 720 each. Sounds a little expensive, but they are solid meat and easily good for 5 or so meals (depending on individual appetites, of course) and an additional sandwich or two for a single person, so not bad on a per meal basis.

Not too expensive, if I buy a full turkey it costs over 1,500 Baht.

It's October next week - don't forget to put your Brussels sprouts on. Turkey sandwiches on fresh and soft white bread, just with a nice bit of salt & black pepper to season up. licklips.gif.pagespeed.ce.v-hsVd-Wpu.gif

Try Makro, cheaper than anywhere else I've seen in Pattaya. A standard 6 kg/14 lb Norbest bird costs about 1000 Baht.

jellied cranberry in the can and stuffing (stovetop) can be had at Villa & Central as well but way overpriced.

GOBBLE GOBBLE love turkey day.

There's also an Australian brand of cranberry sauce in a jar at Friendship in the section with jams. Baht 100 . I've bought American and British produced cranberry sauce at Central before. This Australian one is similar to American and quite good. The British one was just overly sweet and umm ... pretty tasteless.

Try boiling them in a light stock. The meat retains all the juices and is the most succulent turkey I have tasted. I would never go back to roasting or microwaving after trying this. The stock them makes superb gravy. Its a win win.

Just to confirm, the turkey breast are fully cooked prior to freezing correct? What you are doing in the microwave is simply thawing it out?

No, they're raw and have to be cooked properly. If you use the microwave route then you really need a meat thermometer to make sure it reaches the desired temperature inside as microwaves vary so much a reliable time for cooking can't be given. The full cooking instructions are on the Butterball website.

I cooked it in my proper oven last night (no meat thermometer so I didn't want to risk microwaving it), it took 1 hr 40 m and was done perfectly. The recommended time was 1 3/4 - 2 hrs. Absolutely delicious with some roasties, veg, stuffing and a Yorkshire pud. It's going to be turkey sandwiches tonight.

Oh yeah, they come with a pack of gravy as well.

Speaking of turkey sandwiches, Frasers in Jomtien have a turkey sandwich with cranberry and stuffing right in the sandwich. Pretty good.

You can create your own turkey sandwich too from the excellent list of ingredients.

I like turkey, bacon, avocado on white toast. 95Bt.

Speaking of which, the last turkey breast I did in the microwave was done just on a microwavable pie dish and turned out fine, 30 minutes at 30% power, turn over and another 20 to 30 minutes at 30%, but in the past I used to put the breast in one of those roasting bags. They were sold at Friendship ... maybe 5 or so per cardboard holder. Haven't been able to find them anymore. At Friendship they now have a large packet for Baht 570, which is a bit much. Have looked at Villa and Central but not found them. Anyone seen small packets of roasting bags that can be used in a microwave or oven?
