Surin Mayor encourages youngsters to help campaign youth and people against the consumption of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.

Surin Mayor Somchai Kiartkhunarat (สมชาย เกียรติคุณรัตน์) has encouraged youths to be the core members in campaigning their friends and communities not to smoke cigarettes and drink alcoholic beverages.

He has expressed his concern on problems related to the consumption of alcoholic drinks and cigarettes as he considers that the trend is likely to increase among youngsters. Therefore, he has organized a campaign with the concept of “the new generation stays away from all vices”.

The campaign will recruit 100 students, and they will attend the training seminars provided by health experts.

They will be then become the provincial representatives to fight against the consumption of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes.

It's a start but it sounds a bit wierd. Do they get armbands and notebooks? Once they build a network of informers they should be able to pick out the troublemakers and report them to Brother Number Four.

Doe the mayor smoke?

I would rather see a campaign against general corruption myself.

If the local kids adhere to the message of no alcohol and ciggies, then they certainly won't grow up to be members of Thai Visa.

Without a new generation of drunks, gaspers and womenisers coming along, the future for the Thai Visa forum looks grim. :o
