Quite, I don't particularly agree with the death sentence in general but if its in law, then whom am I to dispute the decision. Amazing how quick the wheels of justice have worked in this case in comparison to other recent murder cases, eg the Channel 3 star caught on camera shooting a mate in the head point blank among others. I don't agree with the death penalty either and I doubt it will be carried out. It's a bit hypocritical anyway for a supposedly Buddhist country. Nothing can bring the girl back but so long as he's somewhere he can't be a danger to anyone else then that's a good result as far as I'm concerned. If he serves life, or anywhere near it, if he lives to a good age he's going to be in there for a long time to think about the effect his moment of pleasure will have on the rest of his life as well as that of his victim and her family and friends. PRACHUAP KIRI KHAN A Thai court has sentenced to death the state railway employee found guilty of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl on a moving train two months ago. Wanchai Saengkhao, was accused of sexually assaulting the girl before throwing her body overboard on a night train bound for Bangkok on 5 July. Mr. Wanchai worked as a cleaner on the train. Mr. Wanchai was charged with sexually assaulting a minor, committing premeditated murder, and concealing the body. He was also charged with nighttime theft and drug abuse, as it emerged that Mr. Wanchai stole the victim's phone and took methamphetamine pills prior to committing the crimes. Today Hua Hin Provincial Court found Mr. Wanchai guilty of all charges and sentenced him to death. The court justified the verdict by noting that Mr. Wanchai's crimes were "cruel and without any shed of humanity," therefore deserving the harshest punishment available under the law. Although Thai courts usually reduce sentences for defendants who confess, the judges said Mr. Wanchai's confession did not merit such reduction because he only confessed "when defeated by evidence." Nattakorn Chamnarn, who allegedly served as a look-out for Mr. Wanchai and kept silent when police investigation began, was sentenced to four years in prison. Didn't the culprit have enough money to delay proceedings? What happened to the Red Bull heir who dragged that policeman to death with his red Ferrari almost two years ago? Is he still seriously ill in Singapore? Or has he in the meantime returned to Thailand and basically is a free man? This guy is 22 years old, did something very wrong, maybe under influence of drugs, (and I'm not sure I understand good, didn't confess) ... its not the first time in the world someone get the death penalty being innocent. Everyone can do something wrong, (the one that never did , raise his hand), everyone should have a second chance .. if he sit in a thai prison for 20 year .. I think he will well clearly been punished for his mistake. further on .. I hope we live in a civilized society, A bad and sad think happen, a court valuate and punish that person, and we must hope we(and he) all learn out of it. When I hear a lot of reactions, like "rot in hell scumbag" and some feel happy because someone gets death penalty ... I feel like I live between a lot of judges with the mind of someone from Islamic state. Lets all try to be civilized , let that judge make the right decision, and let not lower our selfs .. In some countries prisons a rapist will be raped by the other inmates, for many, and every time they wanted. It is some kind of inmates "tradition".....according with friends working in the field. His victim was defiled and throttled, she knew every second of her ordeal and experienced death. I hope I am not the only one with this opinion. Whilst I don't necessarily believe Thailand is the hub of forensic science, I think in this case the RTP have got the real culprits. With 2 perpetrators involved who confessed and their occupations to be considered, I think their can be little doubt. I'm not happy with the need for the death penalty, but at least it 100% stops this murderer re-offending. He's cut short another life and in my mind has forfeited the right to keep his. Also, why should decent hardworking tax paying citizens have to bear the cost of keeping him locked up, fed and watered for many, many years? I can't believe he overpowered this poor girl so quietly without assistance. At the very least he must have had a lookout and didn't I read that he had discussed his intentions moments before with his drinking buddies? According to http://www.thaiprisonlife.com/ - the last executions (2 of them) took place in August 2009. According to Amnesty international, Thailand handed down 50+ Death Sentences in 2013, and there are approx 678 prisoners with Death Sentences currently in the system. Informative and helpful post. The moment someone chooses voluntarily to deny another human the right to exist, for self-gratification, or sport, or to promote some ideology, that's the moment when that someone forfeits his own humanity and becomes a creature of the same level as a parasite or a virus. However such a person should spend the rest of their natural life in jail which, for those wanting retribution, is probably worse for the perp than the death penalty in Thailand. The sad thing is that if he had not killed the poor girl he would have got away with a pretty light sentence- a much harder attitude to sexual assault cases generally is the only thing that will help reduce such awful crimes One of the problems of outsourcing is that there is often less vetting of staff because of the low wages being paid (this is a general comment not directly related to this case) 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
