Cheers. I did pop into the station but couldn't find it on the timetable there and didn't have the heart to wake the guy up in the ticket office to ask whistling.gif

Thanks again thumbsup.gif

It's a shame the SRT doesn't make it possible to book online. The overnight sleeper trains are so much more comfortable than an overnight buses, for about the same price...I took the Butterworth train from Hualampong to Phattalung a few days ago and it was only half-full.

In contrast, there are probably 30 to 40 buses at the mega-bus rest-stop in Chumporn at any given time on any given night.

What the SRT effectively does through its lack of moving forward with the times is essentially limit ridership to people who live within easy driving distance to one of their stations that sells the tickets...

The station in Haad Yai hasn't changed a bit in over 20 years.

You can check the SRT train times and prices online: http://www.railway.co.th/checktime/checktime.asp?lenguage=Eng

They did implement an online booking system at one point; even ordered one online. They got rid of it for unknown reasons. So yes, you have to go in person or have someone buy it for you. There is a tour company that does this for you also: http://www.thailandtrainticket.com/ Supposedly you can call the main SRT number and reserve.....but I don't know if they still do this and how far in advance you need to pay.

I remember FAME got the printer to print their own tickets also. Not sure if you could buy through them to have them mailed. I guess they figure ultimately you have to go to the station anyway. Agents could allow payment via 7-11, atm, or online banking and be done with it that way. I remember paying via debit card when SRT was online. Extra 20 baht + 2-3% fee on top of the original fare.
