Ive been sending mail using registered post but it seems the tracking doesnt go past the borders of Thailand, is this the way it usually works, seems a waste of time if so

I sent a letter to the UK via the local post office, told me it left there and went to the airport, then it went quite for a while. A few days latter it said arrived UK, but not exact location.

It was delivered, to the address in the UK, and the tracking system then logged it a couple of days after the event.

So it sort of worked.

Over the last couple of years I have sent quite a few packets to the UK by Thailand Post 'Small Packet Air' and registered. The last one was sent last Friday (3/10/14) and was delivered on Wednesday (8/10/14) which I think is a pretty good service. The tracking, on this occasion, was complete from posting in Thailand to delivery in UK, this is not always the case. Tracking within Thailand to Suvarnabhumi is always complete but very 'hit and miss' in the UK, sometimes no tracking in UK, sometimes tracking ends at GBLALA (UK customs) and sometimes, like this time, it is tracked all the way to delivery. I must say that I have not had one problem with the packages being delivered, regardless of the tracking being completed or not.

In many cases the tracking can be picked up on the tracking system of the receiving country. The service entirely depends on what service is offerred by the receiving country. Some offer tracking door to door, others will only offer proof of delivery, that is, show that its been delivered.

In short, depends on service purchased, and service offerred by receiving country.

Thai EMS tells me it gets to Melbourne but from there I get zero information until delivery --- no matter where the item is sent: Sydney, Adelaide or Ivy Tanks on the Nullabor Plains.

I just checked a package to the uk. Says suvarnabuhmi on the 2nd and nothing since then. Not heard that its arrived in the last 8 days so dont know where it is now.

Nothing unusual. Give it another week or two, it'll show up in the system eventually.

If it were urgent OR important, you would have used a courier service rather than the postal service, right?

As others have said EMS is the best and I've never lost a shipment.

Lost a few with the Thai Post tracking, but they will compensate you.

I quit reading here so maybe other replies say this. But, as CharlieH writes, I have found the by using the USPS tracking systemi and entering the Thai tracking number of a registered item, I can tract the item to delivery and get the name, date, and time of receipt on line.

I have found the same thing , it gets to the airport on Thai Post tracking , on USPS tracking it says it is coming but no details , once it arrives it might show its in US customs or just the sorting station,

then it just depends when data gets uploaded ,

it is not even close to FedEX or UPS tracking but seems to get there OK and give the eBay customer confidence its coming....

but we still have one package out there somewhere that tracking does not work and no answers from the Thai PO , its been 10 weeks so far !

I use 17track ... works well for stuff going to UK from Thailand and coming from UK (or China, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Germany - presumably works for most other countries). Currently tracking some sports clothing coming from Lovell Rugby in UK ... now at Lak Si ... will probably be on this afternoon's truck down to Songkhla.

Tracking on the Thai EMS website certainly goes across borders. I even got the name of the person who signed for it in Singapore.

I send a letter a few weeks ago via EMS to the UK and same experience name of person who signed was on the tracking site so it does track right to the point of delivery

my mistake, something to do with my ISP and/or browser has been giving me a error message for the last few weeks whenever I tried tracking anything, seems its fine at the PO end
