I am a UK national with a triple entry tourist visa from the Liverpool consulate. The enter before date on my visa is December 8th 2014. My current permission to stay, based on my 2nd entry, runs until November 6th so I will shortly be obtaining a 30 day extension from my local immigration office. I will activate my final entry in early December, with a further 30 day extension in the New Year, before returning permanently to the UK at the end of February.

However, I am now considering a trip to China from November 14th to 25th, and am curious as to whether or not it is possible to obtain a re-entry permit based on my tourist visa extension that would allow me to stick to my original dates and plans. I confess I have no idea if or how re-entry permits work in conjunction with tourist visas. Obviously I would rather not have to activate my 3rd entry sooner than planned, as this would complicate issues based on my flight back to the UK which is already booked, and would force me to do a 'border run' to obtain a visa exempt entry.

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

You can get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) for the time remaining from the 60 day entry and the 30 day extension.

You would the same permit to stay date when you re-enter the country you got when you get the 30 day extension.

a trip to China from November 14th to 25th

returning permanently to the UK at the end of February.

If you are returning to Thailand on 25th November and you'll need to exit Thailand again on or before about 5th December when your 30 day extension ends, the re-entry permit will only save you about 10 days.

If you use your triple entry tourist visa to enter on 25th November, you'll get 60 days and you can extend that by 30 days at immigrations, which should see you through to about 22 February.

If you get a re-entry permit and wait to use the triple entry visa to start your third entry on maybe 5 December, your 60 + 30 will carry you through to about 4 March.

So the value of using a re-entry permit depends on when your. "end of February" departure is actually scheduled.

If you do get a re-entry permit, when you return to Thailand on the 25th make sure the immigrations officer at the airport stamps you in on the re-entry permit and that he doesn't use the tourist visa.
