procedure after visa exemption

message Thai visa oct 2014

Dear All,

Hello, and thank you in advance for your help.

I live in Phuket. I will move out of Thailand around December 5 or 10. Last time I went out of Thailand was September 9 (I went to KL). I returned to Phuket on September 17. On my passport, I got what is called, I think, a visa exemption: the stamp says "admitted until 16 oct 2014".

At first, I thought I can go to immigration before Oct 16 and get a stamp for a one month extension (which is 1900THB I think: is it correct?), but a friend recently told me that I might need to exit Thailand to do so.

I will eventually check at Phuket Immigration if I dont find the answer first, but one of you would know the procedure?

If you do know, can you tell me if the extension I can apply for is one week or one month? How much it is? And so, if i need to exit Thailand or not?

Also, knowing that I will leave Thailand for good around December 5 or 10, what is the cheapest option for me: if I have to leave Thailand before Oct 16, is it cheaper for me to apply when abroad for a tourist visa? If yes how much is it (is it 1900THB?), and where is the cheapest to do so (is it Penang, by bus, which I think is 12 hours from Phuket? If yes, any company name and contact info organizing return visa trips?; I have never had to do that before, because I was on a B non Immigration visa before).

Also, since I had a visa exemption on September 17, I might apply next for a tourist visa to stay in Thailand until Dec 5 or 10: can I still do so after I have had my visa exemption on September 17 (and how long does that last: 2 or 3 months?) ? Or should I come back on a visa exemption? Sorry for the seemingly dumb many questions, I am kind of administration-phobic... :)

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

You can get a 30 day extension at Immigration. 1,900 Baht.

A Tourist Visa costs 1,000 Baht and gives a stay of 60 days.

It can be extended at immigration by 30 days. 1,900 Baht.

It would be best to go to Penang for a single entry tourist visa. You would get a 60 day entry from it.

If you get the 30 day extension you would have to go out again to get another visa exempt entry to give you enough time before you leave.. If you did that at a border crossing you would only get a 15 day entry unless you are from a G7 country.

I see. Thanks a lot!

I see, perfect. Thanks a lot! So definitively no need for me to get out of the country in the next couple of days? I can still check at immigration tomorrow morning anyway I guess.

Cheers.
