Whole House Water Filter/Purifiers

Six months ago we bought an electric / remote controlled gate system from Thai Watsadu.

Young lady at Thai Watsadu seemed to quite knowledgeable and was very professional and thorough to set it up with the actual installer.

Good professional installation. Should also share, when the installer came he said the steel wheels under the gate needed to be changed because they were the wrong size (not designed for the weight of our gate).

We believed him and he replaced them within an hour, and he was correct, with the new wheels the gate moved with just the smallest of effort.

Where is Thai Watsadu, please?

Super Highway, direction Lampun/Lampang, on your left side, 10 kms outside city center

Nice one!

I was going to show the way to the one in Samut Sakhon LOL

I followed your directions and realized that I've actually been shopping there for a few years, I just didn't recognize the name or know what the place is called, funny.

But I agree it's really good for many things, I especially liked the modular built in kitchen units which are sensibly priced and of decent quality.

Again, thank you for the prompt.

I simply get the 4 pieces of water purifier from Armon (Icon computer plaza) and get the water guy to fix it near the water tank area, and just choose different kind of filters to combine it........Anyway is not for drinking but just having a cleaner water for shower and washing, and I realise the water from govt is quite dirty as I need to always change the first filter around 2-3 weeks later.

Cost of water purifiers about 950 baht each and filter cost 100 baht for the normal filter while the chacoal filter cost 400 baht. Every month need to use around 4 normal filter and 1 chacoal filter which cost around 800 baht monthly in total.

Now that I've looked into this subject it seems the problem I have is that I don't have a storage tank, the water pressure is such that we don't need one. All the larger whole house models of water purifiers rely on having a storage tank and pump, there's only one model that doesn't but the filters are prohibitively expensive.

Plan B looks like it will be individual filters in the kitchen and bathroom although that looks like an expensive option by comparison to the whole house route, a three stage unit with UV seems to be about 9k each (x two bathrooms and one kitchen).

^ Sounds like a full retail overpriced PURE system. You'll get a 3+UV for half that at a local filter/tank shop. Their basic 3 stage was 50% more than what I paid, ~ 3,000Bt with filters for benchtop. I have since installed it underbench and had to buy a new tap/hose/connector kit @ 600Bt.

We ran our system for 12 months off a fairly poor town supply, hanging sediment/charcoal filer @ 6 months, ceramic @12months.

Filters are over-priced at the big stores like HomePro, Amorn, PURE, etc. Half the price at my local for same product(s).

For what you are currently looking to spend, a whole house system with tank & pump would cost less.... from the right supplier/installer.

Our 1000L tank is UV proof/20 year/thick walled sandstone model + 350w Hitachi constant pressure pump + large sediment filter, all fittings and installation = 17,900k

Add an under bench unit to kitchen for drinking water @ say 4,500k and you're done.

Thanks for that Rob.

Yes you're right, the 9k figure was the walk in the door price at a Homepro equivalent, I've yet to check out the specialist shops that have been recommended.

I'm loathe to instal a tank and a pump if one is not need, again, the water pressure is excellent so I'd like to avoid the tank if possible.

It sounds as though individual units that are more sensibly priced is the way to go, the 3+UV is what I have in mind currently but I'll know more after talking to the shop.

Hi Chiang Mai,I don't honestly see why you would need full house filtration,or even filters in kitchen and bathroom,

if you will not be drinking the water and you are on City water supply, you would be advised to get a storage tank

and pump, as i am 99% sure there will be water shortages in Chiang Mai,in the coming months,as the dams are

only half full, and the dry season has not started yet, less rain this year, more Condos,Malls, houses, and people,it

does not look good.

Some updates, following my research:

Thai Watsudu, on the CM/Lamphun H'way, claims they haven't sold electric gate openers for over a year, I insisted they had and they even called "central" to check who confirmed they don't. OK I though to myself, somebody is mistaken but no big deal. So then I asked them about kitchen installation and the same folks said, despite there being shed loads of kitchens on display there, "they don't do kitchen installation any more". When I asked them if they actually sold anything my question was met with a blank stare! Interesting to note that Baan and Beyond is part of the same company and at all stages of inquiry references were made to check with them. Who knows.

But I did spot a very expensive electronic gate opener at a small shop on the ring road at the Lamphun/CM road, THB 42K, imported from Italy, it even makes pizza in its spare time.

I have been living in a small 3 bedroom place with--no storage tank--for about 7 years.

We get a lot of water cut-offs on the Municipal Water supply, but my Landlady is too cheap to fit a storage tank; I have a backup of large bins full of water in each bathroom, and it's a pain. Get a storage tank, unless your local Authority is better than mine.

OK, here's the up to date scoop on electronic gate openers:

Thai Watsusdu doesn't sell them any more, neither does their sister company, Bahn and Beyond.

Global House has a 9k jobbie, the cost of which soon escalates when all the other bits and pieces are added in.

A company called PAT in CM is the place to see, they're located near Central Festival, they do the installation of gate openers for Home Pro/Home Mart plus they sell all the bits and pieces, they are the serious game in town in this field.

Home Pro sells an Italian motor package which includes two remotes. installation (by PAT) and 4 metres of track, about 28k, additional track at 500 metre, all guaranteed one year.

I take your point HB, I'm playing with this idea currently. I always thought that the absence of water pressure was the key driver in considering the need for a storage tank, water shortages are probably a bigger driver however.

We live in Changwat Samut Sakhon and at times the town water pressure drops so we only have water, a trickle at that, downstairs.

That's when it's not been cut off, and yes, the bins in the bathrooms are a pain!
