Thailand plans one of world's tallest skyscrapers
Reported by: UNB

Bangkok, Oct 15 (AP/UNB) — A Thai property developer has announced plans to build one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world in Bangkok.

Grand Canal Land Public Company Ltd. says the 125-floor building will stand 615 meters (2018 feet) high and will be completed by 2019.

According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which maintains a database of the tallest skyscrapers, the Bangkok "Super Tower" will be the world's ninth tallest if it is built on schedule.

Grand Canal says the soaring building will offer space for offices, a luxury hotel and an observation deck with panoramic views of the Southeast Asian capital.

The tallest building in the world is Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which has 163 floors and is 828 meters (2,717 feet) high.

Grand Canal Land Public Company, hmm so the land will be near a canal?

They flood a lot don't they?

Are there any implications for a building this size on land that floods on a regular basis?

Apart from buying some wellies, that is.

I wonder where they plan to build, and how far the support columns will go down? Any engineers here?

I believe it is to be located as part of their larger development on the junction of Rama 9 and Ratchadapisek.

Oh dear god! They plan to build this huge building on flood plains and do not even realise or care that in about 100yrs alot of BKK will be under water. Completely and utterly stupid!!

They can build as many skyscrapers and shoppingmalls as they want, it doesn't change the fact, that Thailand is still a third world country!!coffee1.gif

please define what is a third world country ?

and now everyone waits for the"Super Collapse"

Please check and compare your seismic data with building standards in places that do actually have earthquakes. A moderate quake in Bangkok by Californian or Japanese standards would cripple the city.

Making sure they keep the income gap and undistributed wealth in check, eh? Plus now we're already gonna have emporio, mahanakorn building one can only boycott (I sure will). Chatuchak, copied goods, pantip, that sort of stuff seems much more fun, and characterizes the vibe of Bangkok much more.
