1st Myanmar Tachileik Bike Week

Recommended Posts

The resolution of the document was hard to read but seems like:

Cross border from Chiang Rai to nearby Tachileik.

2-day meet, Dec14 &15.

16th, escorted ride to Kyalng Tong (Tung) for lunch thence to Mong Lar (could not find on Googlemap).

17th ride back Tachileik.

Is that how y'all are interpreting this?

Are participants require to cross back to Thailand after that?

Is it really that easy to enter burma?

They talk about immigration fees on their site. Normally one needs to get a visa on arrival which in fact has to be applied for online (given upon arrival). Maybe it's easier if you travel with a tour operator. Edited by Nickymaster

Ya, I suspect it is not permitted to ride-travel Myanmar without a tour operator.

Maps suggest that the terrain is mountainous, hence desirable 'twisties?'; if well paved...which I doubt.

I've been itching to ride M (&V) for some time.

Not too keen on escorted tours though.

"Trip plan …

Face Book:

"16-December (13:00 hr) : Start riding from Tachileik to Kyainge Tong. Stay 1 night.

17-December (09:00 hr) : Travelling to famous tourist attractions in Kyainge Tong and ride to Mong La. Visiti night market and stay 1 night.

18-December (09:00 hr) : Visit the landmark of Myanmar – China border and some attractive place in Mong La.Then ride back to Tachileik."

END OF TRIP."

Looks like this is sponsored by the local M/C club...mostly Harleys.

I put this to FB:

    • Papa Al I read about your bike week on ThaiVisa bike forum. Sounds good. I'll try to make it. Question: after event, must I go back to Thailand, or is it permitted to stay a while longer?

1st Myanmar Tachileik BIKE WEEK The special entry without Visa permit for Bike Week event and the Trip under our arrangement is valid to stay 14 days in Myanmar.

Still unclear to me if I would be permitted to ride around on my own for most of the 14 day alotment.

I guess I'll ask. ( ...and it shall be given...??)

Stay tuned....

Still...... it's an opportunity ( although with Chaperones) to take your own bike into Myanmar.

I checked the route on Google Maps and it looks like a nice area.

Curious what the penalty is when after the event, riding out of that Tachileik erea and getting caught.

Although I don't like being escorted, it's still the best hassle free / safe option to ride in Myanmar.

According to a Dutch travel advice site the border erea with Thailand ( marked red) has active Druggangs and is better to be avoided.

I'm seriously considering in going anybody else??

foreigners are not allowed to be at certain areas in myanmar still.

and anyway, you dont want to ride your bike around Shan State!

but it looks like a good opportunity to go inside myanmar easily.

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay I'm still planning on doing this event and sponsors require an "international drivers license."

I have a Colorado license with motorcycle endorsement, and a 5-year Thai mocy license so I guess I need to get IDL for the Thai DL.

I couldn't come up with this info searching forums so maybe need some helpful how-to info...please.
