CHIANG RAI, Oct 27 -- It is winter again in Thailand and several popular tourist destinations, especially those in the North and Northeast are, undoubtedly, packed with local and foreign tourists.

Many adventurous tourists are brave enough to travel up to the tops of high mountains in the North before the sun rises to appreciate the beauty of the sea of fog and wildflowers which are blooming at this time of year.

Those who have travelled to Thailand’s northernmost province of Chiang Rai would know immediately that tourists are literally everywhere, especially in the province’s most attractive places.

For example, Doi Mae Salong in Mae Fah Luang district where ethnic minority hilltribes grow and sell organic tea, the weather atop the mountain early Sunday dropped to just 15 Celsius, but the chilly weather was not an obstacle as large crowds of tourists strolled and admired the beauty of tea plantation.

Hilltribe vendors normally enjoy a slow-paced life. But not today as their products, including vegetables and fruits which are normally grown in colder climates, but now are planted in Chiang Rai and are quickly sold out to visitors.

Weekend visitors trekking around Phu Soi Dao National Park in Uttaradit province bordering Lao felt the cold weather as the temperature dropped to 20 degrees Celsius.

Wildflowers bloomed and emitted varied fragrances throughout the entire park.

Amazed tourists viewed crystal clear dew on park grass as provincial weather forecasters announced that the minimum temperature atop the mountain would be around 14 degrees Celsius--and winter this year will be much colder than usual.

In the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani bordering Lao, tourists flocked to admire the natural beauty of Pha Taem National Park and to also become the first to view the sun when it rises in Thailand.

The Meteorological Department calculated when the sun rises in the countryside from this area.

Tourists could also see the mighty Mekong River separating Thailand from Lao and simultaneously could see wildflowers which usually bloom from October to Feburary.

Closer to the Thai capital, a new tourist destination called Khao Kra Jom in Ratchaburi province is receiving huge attention from enthusiastic tourists.

Weather this morning there measured only 15-16 degrees Celsius.

The province also offers several exciting tourism spots, especially along the Thailand-Myanmar border. (MCOT online news)

Well, that's good news for the hotel associations who want to take over tourist arrivals to filter out those not worthy of entering Thailand, i.e. those who will not spend 4K, 5K or more daily for accommodations.

Landed at Swampy today at 1415 and went for the taxi line down from meeting #3 - two people in the queue - total. About 50 taxi drivers standing by the booths waiting for a customer

Good alternative is Laos.

People much friendlier and not that much money orientated as the thais.

So sad no beach in Laos otherwise i would move surely to that place.

The local Thai's of Issan and the North are incredibly friendly, its like a different country compared to anywhere South of Bangkok.
. Thais are so Friendly and Smiles all around compared to Tourist areas...

"tourists are literally everywhere'. TAT dish out so much 'spin' it's a wonder they don't all fall over themselves or disappesr up their own collective orifices, where there is very little solar activity.

They are not westerners 1-5

packed with local and foreign tourists.

Many we learn are simply Thais

"tourist destinations... packed with local and foreign tourists."

That's exactly what it said in the report. Thais can be tourists also, as you can be in your own country.

"Amazed tourists, undoubtedly, packed, huge attention from enthusiastic tourists, exciting tourism spot, tourists are literally everywhere..."

Clearly, the edict has come down; Use more adjectives.

In Amazing Thailand:

"The Meteorological Department calculated when the sun rises in the countryside from this area."

Amazing!

"Weather this morning there measured only 15-16 degrees Celsius."

Truly Amazing! And inviting!

It’s reached desperation level…

"It’s reached desperation level…"

As has your search for something worth posting; Thai bashing isn't.

The only tourists I saw up in Nong Khai were Thai and I spent the night. I don't know where anybody saw farang tourist packed in Udon, I was downtown the other night and knew almost everybody there, and I don't know a lot of people.

Try not to be so myopic, it's not Thai bashing.

It's simply mocking ridiculous ideas and proposals.

I'd do it anywhere.

This weekend for Loy Kratong festival I thought Loy Kratong was in Nov. around the 5th, 6th, and 7th. could have fooled me. The high season is picking up more western back packers around our fair city and the traffic is getting heavy. The high season usually starts in Nov. and we will have a lot of Thais in town for the real Loy Kratong. The place I stay is pretty much booked up until after the New Year, sorry to disappoint all of the Thai haters.

Cha Am is a ghost town compared with the pre-coup days. So is Hua Hin. Has anybody told TAT what tat means in English?

Those blue tented camping sites are strictly Thai weekend vacation spots, mostly families who see this type of vacation as adventure tourism. But I doubt many will sleep well during the rare occasions when the temps drop into the single digits.

Its propaganda requires qualities now not so easily found in people these days -

Westerners use it more for light hearted comedy relief than news-

Wait to low season they will by that final desperate stage start talk about ""missing planes" …"Alien abductions " …Misinformation and shy tourists hiding in nearby tents , thus the hotel rooms empty
