Pattaya_Fox
Traffic Police Checkpoints stepped up to reduce drink-related road deaths in Pattaya. Police Lieutenant Colonel Somshai, the Chief of Pattaya`s Traffic Division organised this late night checkpoint on the Sukumvit Road in front of the Mathathai School in Central Pattaya in response to increasing numbers of drink-related road accidents recently. Police Officers were randomly checking drivers and their vehicles and the Breath testing Machines were also being used. During the evening`s operation a total of 52 individuals were breath tested and out of them, 9 men failed the test and were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The Traffice Police tell us that these checkpoints will be a permanent fixture now on the roads of Pattaya. So if you drink please utilize the services of a taxi from now on. geoffphuket
Don't know if anyone else saw this, but on Thai tv last week, there was a story about a police check point that was handing out presents to every driver they stopped and breathalised that hadn't been drinking. Could only happen in Thailand eh!

Could only happen in Thailand eh! Bet they didn't give out too many presents ! (note: should have tested every taxi driver (car/moto/tuk tuk) for drug use too. Might have caused a severe shortage of taxis in the city though.)

COBBER
What is the penalty for drink driving in Thailand? Its up to the discretion of the court. I heard that a farlang up- country recieved a night in the cells, 2000 baht fine, 1 day a month of community work for a year and no loss of license. A thai that i know was booked in Sri Racha over Songkran and recieved a 5000 baht fine and no loss of license.
ZZZ
A few months ago a Thai guy caused an accident, one fatality, while driving under influence. He got the death penalty!!! Be careful.
bulzit
There is no excuse to drink and drive in Pattaya with all the baht buses.
Phil Conners
Bulzit, what's the cheating bahtbusses have to do with anything? Do you realize a lot of people live far outside Pattaya where the bahtbusses either won't go (or if they do you are either ripped off or assaulted.) Now if Pattaya had proper meter taxis it would be a completely different story.

Meter taxi's the way to go - don't believe it will be happening to soon, so like many others I will
