flyingsaucersarereal
I see this all the time tourists with the wife and kids walking down walking street. Walking down soi 6,7,8 or down massage streets with girls yelling hey sexy man, or you want massage. What kind of horrible parents bring there kids to Pattaya especially in these areas?

Popular Post Bellacissa
I guess I'm a horrible parent. I'm bringing my son (13 years old) to Pattaya in January. We'll be living there for at least a year while my husband works in another part of that hemisphere. Will we be traipsing down Walking Street? No. We'll be up in Naklua or down in Jomtien for the most part. But I do have a good friend that owns a bar on Soi 6 and I'll make sure that my son knows how to find a motorcycle taxi that will take him there should he ever be separated from me. I can't hide every seedy aspect of Pattaya from him and he's old enough to know what a girl in a short, short skirt and stripper heels probably is, but that doesn't mean we'll be hanging out in that end of town. Contrary to popular belief, that's not all there is to see in Pattaya.

He has a cell phone and I can't imagine that we'll ever be separated, so chances are he'll never be in a situation where he has to go there. But if it was your kid, wouldn't you want him to know some safe spots throughout the city to go to if there was an emergency?

Popular Post Bellacissa
It just feels wrong to expose a child to that environment. Especially that street it is probably the worst in all of Pattaya. I don't disagree that it's not ideal. And again, I hope he never needs to go there. But, when we first get there, I'm going with the people that I already know and trust. That bar owner just happens to be one of them. There are others as well and they are not on Soi 6, so no worries. That won't be his only place to go. I'm not going to stick blinders on him and make him think we're living in Disneyland. That's naive and dangerous in my opinion. I'm certainly not going to shove it in his face, but when he asks questions (and he will) I'll tell him the truth and explain why that side of the culture exists and why it's an adults only industry. I'd rather arm him with information than shove it under the rug and pretend it's not there.

Popular Post Boxclever
The one and only time I took my wife and 8 year old Son to Jomtien for a weekend at the beach was a bad experience. We took a songtao to Big C and these two fat, middle aged Farangs were in the back openly and loudly talking about their sex antics the night before! half way through the fing and cing I asked them to tone it down as there were children present. The Buffoons told me to get out if I didn't like it. To me, the whole place stinks of sex, crime and drugs. It's everywhere. I will never again take my family anywhere near the place.

Kaalle
I was watching porn when I was 9 years old, today with the internet I suspect children are exposed to it even earlier. Who cares if they see a few scantily clad Thai girls or hear a few swear words in english or whatever. The important thing is of course the home environment etc. Edited October 29, 2014 by Kaalle
NanLaew
Lady: IF there is an emergency, then your son should - either go to the police station on beach road Oh yes? Home of Pattaya's finest? - or go to McDonalds in Central Festival Oh yes? Where there's loads of strangers and staff who mostly won't understand what he's saying. - or go inside Mulligans on beach road at Central Festival Oh yes? Same as McDonalds above. - or go to ANY other place than the one you suggest... and then call you from there... your idea of telling him to get a motocycle up soi6 is clearly the most stupid thing I have ever heard... The home of a family friend, someone he knows personally isn't a good idea? Why is a motocy taxi ride so perilous? What happens up Soi 6 that is so bloody terrible? By the same token, the OP's son could call from just about anywhere but why deny going to a family friends house? Just because there are hookers and mongers all around that YOU cannot deal with? I never said it would be the first place I'd tell him to head to. It's just somewhere that he could go IF HE HAD TO in an emergency. Clearly, if he can find an officer that speaks enough English to help him or can go into Central Festival or somewhere else public, that would be the first thing he would do. And as I said earlier, he has a cell phone and will always be able to get ahold of me, so the chances of this ever, ever happening are slim to none. But, it is nice to know that I know someone in the area that he could run to if the need arose. That's all. Geez, people. I'm not trying to initiate him into the Soi 6 nightlife at the age of 13 regardless of his size. Give me a little credit.
