Though it might be different than the usual bladiebla... First off I dont use taxis in Bangkok so often but when I do, never have bad experiences though today was quite surprising even more.

I needed to go to the other side of the city on this busy, friday, haloween around 5pm. First taxi outside my condo said no which I can understand to be honest.

The second one took me in and as usual without any questions asked he turned on the meter en started talking away. He came from isaan and was the same age as me(27). So I asked him for how long he was driving his taxi, he said he had it for one year and he was happy with it. He told me he used the meter always and makes about 40.000 per month. With his room being 3.000 and rent for the taxi 7.000 he was holding nett 30.000 per month which I thought was high for a taxi driver.

We talked a bit and he told me he didnt drink but liked traveling, he'd been to laos, vietnam, cambodia, malaysia had 2 cars (1 being the taxi) 2 motorbikes and also he liked cycling when he had free time, working 6 days a week about 12 hours per day he said to be quite happy with his life...

It was interesting to talk to a taxi driver like this instead of the usual YOU LOVE THAI FOOD??? YOU LOVE WOMEN THAAAAAI??? MII MIAA?? Stuff most taxis come up with.

To make a question; is there antone else who have heard of honest drivers making thia kind of money??

I mean, im all ok with the price raise in December but never knew they could make such amounts.

Rent for the taxi....7,000 baht a month??? thought he owned it? and if he does own it ....7,000 baht/month payment....sounds kinda low! ....oh well...

Take taxi's all the time in Bangkok and never a problem anyway....usually with my wife, so the driver and my wife usually have a good talk. Used to tell my friends that I have a driver with a car in Bangkok ....average monthly bill for it ...5,000-6,000/baht a month....cheaper than owning a car!
