Dusit Poll : Government and military junta still win people’s admiration

BANGKOK: -- Most Thais want the interim government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to speed up efforts to tackle economic slowdown with measures to stimulate the economy, Dusit Poll said.


Dusit Poll or the poll conducted by Rajabhat Suan Dusit University was carried out among 1,564 people from Monday to Saturday.

The survey found that 82.42 per cent of the respondents want the government to tackle economic woes and the 63.11 per cent want the government to work to the full efforts and 59.85 per cent want the government to spend the budget with transparency and ensure the budget would be worthwhile.

Dusit Poll also revealed that 73.91 per cent favoured the the government ‘s drastic action in assisting farmers, and 72.57 per cent were happy with its economic stimulus policies.

On the survey of the performance of the National Council for Peace and Order, 80.43 per cent admired its tough performance in working and 78.58 per cent agreed the military has made achievement in its plans.

Miss International Queen – a beauty pageant with a difference

Judge rejects Ebola quarantine for US nurse Kaci Hickox

Fort Kent: Less than a day after restricting the movements of an American nurse who treated Ebola victims in West Africa, a judge in Maine has lifted the measures, rejecting arguments by the state of Maine that a quarantine was necessary to protect the public.

Bangkok ready to host 2nd Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals

BANGKOK, 3 October 2014 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration confirms its readiness to play host to the Second Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals on 4-6 November 2014.


Mr. Wanlop Suwandee, Chief adviser to the Bangkok Governor, said the meeting was an opportunity for leaders of ASEAN cities and other participants from related units to share their views on the issues of city development cooperation.

He said the meeting would help bring an understanding to the public that city development plans would be better achieved with the cooperation from other regional cities as a group. The meeting is expected to delegate roles to the participating cities to take in developing the ASEAN Community in different aspects such as tourism, public disaster relief and technology development.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will constantly publicize results of the meeting and bring them into concrete action before reporting their progress to the next meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals.

Prawes district police chief and his deputies removed over pub raid

BANGKOK: -- The superintendent of Prawes district police and his two deputies were on Sunday temporarily transferred to Metropolitan Police Bureau pending an investigation into alleged bribe taking concerning with a traditional massage parlour in the district.

Department of Mental Health: More Thais suffer from stress

BANGKOK, 3 Nov 2014, (NNT) - The Department of Mental Health has indicated that more and more Thais are suffering from stress.


According to Mental Health Director-General Dr. Jessada Chokedamrong, the major cause of stress is family problems , followed closely by occupation, narcotics and politics. He suggested that the best way to combat stress is to think positive. Visible symptoms of those with stress include unstable mental disorder, bad temper, and body system malfunction, which could lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, Dyslipidnemia and cancer.

According to the Department, approximately 40,000 calls have been made through its 1323 Hotline number so far this year-- an average of 6 calls per hour. The data indicated that the majority of the callers suffered from stress, anxiety, mental health issues and family problems.

The Department has urged all interested people to visit hospitals under the Ministry of Public Health from now to November 7th, the national mental health week, to ask for free advice on mental health management.

Train hits car at southern railway crossing

YALA: -- A Bangkok-Yala passenger train hit a passing car at an uncontrolled railway crossing in Cha-uat district of Nakhon Si Thammarat province before noon Monday injuring the driver.


The train was not derailed after the accident on the railway crossing in between Ban Toon and Cha-uat railway stations, railway official said.

The train continued its journey to Yala while the motorist, an assistant headman was admitted to Cha-uat hospital for treatment of minor injuries from bruises.

It was the fourth time in two weeks that accidents happened on uncontrolled railway crossings.

PHUKET: -- Police over the weekend (November 1 and 2) arrested three men as part of an anti-crime drive leading up to the Loy Kratong Festival. They also seized drugs and guns.

National police chief rescues street kitten at Lat Phrao

BANGKOK: -- Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Somyos Pumpanmuang came to a rescue of a street kitten at the Lat Phrao Intersection at 7 am Monday.


While observing and directing traffic police operation at the intersection, Somyos spotted a kitten running underneath a car.

He ordered the car to stop and sent a policeman to fetch the kitten and ordered an officer to keep it as his pet.
