British Tourist reunited with money and passport at Pattaya Police Station

brit-1.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Late on Saturday Night, a British Tourist, who was about to begin his first ever trip to Thailand, was reunited with a bag containing his money and passport, which he had left on the back seat of a Bangkok Airport Taxi.

Khun Kumsin aged 49, an AOT Taxi Driver, based at the Airport in Bangkok, took Mr. David Pennington, from Hillingdon in UK, to Pattaya but after he had dropped him off at his Hotel and began his return journey to Bangkok, the driver realized a bag had been left on the back seat of the Taxi.

Inside the bag was 1,070 pounds sterling and Mr. Pennington’s Passport. Khun Kumsin went back to Pattaya Police Station to report the find and, by chance at the same time, Mr. Pennington was also at the station and the pair were reunited and under the supervision of officers, the money and passport was returned to its rightful owner.

Mr. Pennington told us that he feels lucky to have received back the items as he could not remember the license plate of the taxi or name of the driver. He puts his luck down to the fact that on 5th November he will be celebrating his 40th Birthday.

There just can't wait to get out of the cab and into a bar.

He couldn't remember the licence plate of the taxi or the name of the driver? bloody hell, I've never even known either of these. Good on the taxi driver for being so honest, hope he got a decent tip off the Brit.

If you take a taxi at the airport, you have all the info you need on the paper you get there when you book the taxi. coffee1.gif

So nice to hear stories of honest people - for a change!

My experience in Thailand has been much the same - the vast majority of Thais I have encountered have been lovely, kind, honest. Reading this forum I often wonder what triggers the negative experiences detailed here. Couldn't have anything to do with the attitudes of entitled Farang, I'm sure ;)

If he's that forgetful at 39 what is he going to be like when he's 60?

He gets out of a taxi and forgets the bag with his money and his passport in it? Must have had a few too many drinkie poos on the plane me thinks.

Fortunately I have been able to read this excellent post before the TV humbug brigade get started, even a story like this will not escape the sarcastic and negative treatment from the self obsessed and bitter minority.

An excellent example of an honest and self respecting Thai doing the right thing, I am sure the British tourist will have suitably rewarded him for his honesty. This amount of cash would have made a difference to this drivers life, his actions should not be minimized.

He is to be commended...

And the fact that all these details are recorded and can be traced back may have encouraged the driver to promptly report his discovery. Either way he deserves credit for his actions.

This taxi will be my taxi to Pattaya next month for sure .. Will also give him few hundred bt on top for Xmas box.

Awesome to see a story like this. Honest taxi drivers and honest police. Nice change.

The published stories may be rare, but the honest people are not, despite the constant negative drivel posted on Thai Visa by bitter old dears.

First ever trip to Thailand and already wearing the correct Pattaya Explorer Outfit, must have mail-ordered in advance.thumbsup.gif

after a long flight one can be very tired and hence a bit careless.

similar things like this also happened to me.

lucky you when there is a honest person saving you a lot of money and the hazzle of getting a replacement for a lost passport.

there are good people out there and they are not in the minority.

Thought so too , I think he knew he was on CCTV outside Bangkok airport then decide to bring it to the cop shop.

cant imagine why the taxi driver didnt go straight back to the hotel, that would be the first place you would go to wouldnt it? guess it wouldnt have made the feel good news

The driver knows the trip is fully registered and that the passenger has the slip given at the booth.

So he would have been concerned more with losing his super-lucrative airport pitch, rather than being honest.

Nice with a story showing there is an other side of Thailand: honest people living and working here.

Just to clarify for the doubters, reporting found items is done at police stations to avoid any potential issues later and the police do not arrange these press reports but a reporter that is in the station does that and news editors then decide which of many, many such daily reports get published.

That would have to be worth 100 quid to the cabbie, so I hope Mr Pennington kicked the can.

Wow, nice story.....just wonder what kind of taxi it was to go from the UK to Pattaya....I usually have to fly at least part of the way...lol?

Now, now. Where he comes from that may be considered formal wear. The official outfits have catchy slogans printed on them and include fetching camouflage shorts.

Get in a scuffle with a Thai and the incoming mob... You will find out how entitled you really are

Because he didn't need to , he went to the police.
