BANGKOK: -- Two gamblers were shot dead and at least 10 others wounded by a man who lost all of his money at a dice game in Khon Kaen early yesterday.

Pol Lt Colonel Sorawit Sinna, the duty officer at Kranuan Police Station, said a team of police, a medical unit from the district hospital and a rescue squad from a local charitable foundation rushed to the scene when reports came in of the attack at about 1am in a village in Kranuan district.

They found the bodies of a woman, Sommai Faiphet, 45, and a man, Sawai Daengnok, 43, as well as spent AK47 cartridges scattered around the scene.

The 10 wounded were given emergency treatment and taken to the district hospital.

Luan Faiphet, 64, one of the wounded, told police she opened her house for a weekend high-low game, which drew about 20 people from the village and nearby communities.

At one point a man identified only as Sam, from a nearby village, got angry after dropping more than Bt10,000 in the game.

After being calmed down and given Bt300 to go home by the dealer and other players, the man left on his motorcycle.

About an hour later, he returned with the assault rifle and fired indiscriminately at the players and other people in the house. He fled after about a minute, leaving behind his motorbike.

Police took the gamblers and house owner into custody for booking.

The whereabouts of the gunman was unknown as of press time last night.

I was in Kranuan yesterday on the way to the Khon Kaen Zoo. Seems to be a very relaxed place but then again the BIB allows those gambling places to openly operate.

Unfortunately all the fine words from the General (now PM) have not been carried out. Gambling did stop for a few days, but is now in full flow in villages throughout Thailand, with the police still taking "hefty fees" to turn a blind eye.. Just as lottery tickets were reduced to 80baht for one draw, and are now back up to 110baht once again.

The PM needs to put his house in order!

The only thing that has changed in Thailand is the direction of the money-flow. And of course Thailand reputation have become even worse, because of stupid nationalistic statements. Tourist and Investors are currently running far away from Thailand. That is all that really have changed. Sadly...
