joebrown
This a 'Nation' report. The BP says the aircraft slipped off the taxiway whilst preparing for take-off. Sounds like nothing to do with a skid or anything high speed, just bad driving which is seen everywhere in LOS. webfact
THAI Airbus skids off runway in Khon KaenBANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International’s Airbus A330 with 246 passengers on board skidded off the runway in Khon Kaen while it was taxing to take off Monday night. The incident happened at 8:50 pm while Flight TG 047 was scheduled to leave Khon Kaen airport for Suvarnabhumi airport. It ran out the runway for about 10 metres with the front wheels buried in the soil.No passengers were hurt and all were evacuated out of the plane safely.THAI offered its passengers, who did not want to return to Bangkok right away, to stay at the Pullman Khon Kaen Hotel pending the clearing of the runway. All were transferred to Udon airport for flight back to Suvarnabhumi today. The airline has also apologized for the inconvenience. The accident prompted Nok Air’s Flight DD9820 from Bangkok to Khon Kaen last night to land at the Udon Thani airport instead as the THAI Airbus is still blocking part of the runway, making takeoff and landing impossible. The incident forced Khon Kaen airport to close the runway until further notice. All the 11 flights on the airport a day are diverted to Udon Thani airport instead.Nok Air’s passengers, who were scheduled to leave Khon Kaen for Bangkok at 8:50 pm last night, were transferred to Udon Thani to catch their flight there.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/thai-airbus-skids-runway-khon-kaen/ -- Thai PBS 2014-11-

ginjag
Was that the last flight from KK that night or was the landing of NOK going to be the last flight later ?? If so the airport would have been closed anyway for the night, enough time until the morning to tow the plane away. Closed until ???? problem with the topics is we rarely get follow ups for guidance. TallGuyJohninBKK
A more accurate description of this incident.http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=170957 Hard to know what's "more accurate". That report appears to be based on just The Nation article. Some of the news reports say the plane "skidded". Perhaps it just taxi'd off the runway. The usual Thai reporting vagary of wording/details. Kind of hard to know at this point. BTW, I saw one reference in one of the Thai aviation sites indicating that the Thai Air aircraft HS-TEF from last year's mishap incident at Suvarnabhumi has never been repaired or returned to service and is just stored at the airport. No accident investigation report that I can find, as yet, either. Anyone know if that is correct? http://www.planespotters.net/Production_List/Airbus/A330/066,HS-TEF-Thai-Airways-International.php http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/6062459 http://www.thai-aviation.net/files/Airlines/Thai_Airways_International.pdf Edited November 4, 2014 by TallGuyJohninBKK

laobali
No statement from THAI other than an apology for the inconvenience? trogers
Could have been hydroplaning of the wheels just before takeoff. Those accident stats are really impressive. daveAustin
THAI Airbus skids off runway in Khon Kaen Perhaps a disgruntled Silom Road vendor decided to set up shop on that available patch of grass and the pilot fancied a quick pad thai before the off? TallGuyJohninBKK
Just wondering if the DCA publishes reports on these accidents? They supposedly do.... But seem to be hard to find, and not usually much publicized. And of course, typically come LONG LONG after the original incident has passed from most people's memory and attention. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee of Thailand Air Safety Division Department of Aviation At least in English, they don't appear to have a public web archive of their past reports, although copies of past reports for various mishaps do eventually tend to show up elsewhere on third-party sites. http://www.aviation.go.th/en/content/261.html Edited November 4, 2014 by TallGuyJohninBKK
