Update: Went to meet at the public place as agreed time. Upon arrival looked around but did not see the car, so sent another sms that i was there.

Immediate response was "on the way"

Waited for 15 mins, nothing, so went back to work.

25 mins later got sms asking where exactly i was.

As much as i am looking for a car, i will not be sitting around like a fool in empty car park waiting indefinitely.

45 mins later, a phone call from the seller. I guess now he was ok with using the phone.

May not have been a scam, but most certainly a quality expat with excellent selling skills..

Maybe the car broke down on the way? :P

No way, this has happened many times, people who say they are arriving in a few minutes then never show up and don't bother to even let you know.

A $15,000 car and people telling me they can pay half now and the "rest in 6 months" and "Is that OK"?

Calling drunk at 0200 AM asking "What color is it?". "Sir, did you not read the advertisement?"

Finally men named "Mike" calling with extreme lo-ball offers. The actual name is Moishe or Mohammed and is a dude running a side business buying and selling used cars out of his condo. This is why people take a loss and just trade used vehicles in to the dealer.

I do not think paranoia is a good helper when selling the car.

If i am a genuine seller with genuine product, firstly i would not be making times with people in some car park, but giving people my address.

Yes many do not show up, but many also do. Its the business of selling the car.

Yes idiots call in the middle of the night, but you do not have to answer the phone and do not need to make times to meet, can simply tell them either to f..k off or to call during normal hours

What their name is, makes no difference unless not only you are paranoid but also a racist.

What their business is also none of my business.

To make a time with a buyer and to arrive 30 mins late without as much as a courtesy call or sms and an apology is simply retarded.

People trade cars for different reasons, some can not be bothered with a headache, some just want quick cash and some are simply retarded keeping price so

high that car does not sell and instead of having a good think about the offers, they keep it another year and then trade it for even less than the offers they had.

Thats why there are cars that sell fast and cars that stay on the market for months if not years.

I been looking for a car for a while now, and can tell you, some sellers are really retarded.

To end my rant, just an example for you

8 year old BMW, market price around 950K, guy asking for 1.3 million.

Contacted him, offered 950K, he turned it down, i guess i was one of your Mohammeds

6 months later still for sale, asking price is 950k.

Called him again offered 890K, again declined

Another 3 months, still for sale, now asking price is 890K, only current market price at the moment is around 800K

Another month, market price will drop further.

I am sure he will end up trading it for 600K

I'm talking about my experience in California and nothing to do with racism. There it is very common for "Israelis" and Persians to casually buy and sell vehicles as a side business and that is a fact, not a stereotype.

I dare you to advertise a used car on Craigslist with full details stating local sales only. You will soon get an email saying only "Is it still available?" If you bother to respond you will be next be tempted with an escrow or western union scam and that too is a fact.

Sure but you pulled the race card and that is Yak dung. My 2012 Honda Fit will soon be offered for sale (outside Thailand, sorry) with less than 10k KM on the odometer. No phone calls will be accepted until the seriousness of the buyer is established. The market price is about ¥1.65 mil. Dealer offered ¥1.1 mil in trade for a new Subaru, which has caught my fancy. I might go for it.

Currently listed an Rx8 with about 15 full color photos, inside and out engine, etc. with all the mechanical info in boring detail (imagine that), description, mileage, cash only deal need to pay off finance etc. and constantly get calls or texts that invariably ask a question that is clearly already addressed in the ad, will I trade for ?? Will I take half down and accept payments? What is wrong with the engine? Does it run? Ad reads "car starts and runs but engine is ill and needs replaced" a common problem that anyone who knows Rx8's knows or can EASILY search on the net. It boggles the mind and yes it is constant frustration when selling.

Arunsakda, you made me laugh.

Last year I sold my motorbike. It was in excellent condition and I asked for only a very reasonable price. First viewer paid cash there and then. I then had a number of very low offers or enquiries from a variety of callers who sounded Turkish, Israeli, Iranian etc.

Are you psychic or just tapping my phone? thumbsup.gifbiggrin.png

So if the caller was Chinese name jimmy, would it make any difference?

Where do you think dealers buy cars? From heaven?

You sure you want to continue defending your " non racist" card when you specifically brought up names and origins?

When I sold my last car, I had time wasters Americans and Brits who not only made stupid offers but did not even have the funds, thai showed up and paid cash in full and was a dealer who resold the car next week.

Personally I could not care less who and where they come from, I am selling the car not getting married to them

Why don't you just buy a new car? I assume you want to save some money. That is why I would prefer to sell to a private party vs the convenience of dealer trade in. The last time one of these men named "Mike" with an accent called me I was selling a car with a KBB value of about $15.5K USD. I think he offered me 6 thousand so I politely declined. Then he starts shouting abuse at me saying I am being unreasonable!!

So I says to him I says "Listen up here now you, you call me on MY phone disturbing me when I stated contact by Sms only please, then you start screaming at me like a crazy person when I don't want to give you a 70% discount. This an almost new car at a good price for someone who has money and needs a car. It isn't a sacrifice sale for a predatory exploiter of deparate people like you to make a profit from, Good Day!" (Click) I should likely tell "Jimmy " with a Chinese accent the same, basically to get stuffed. "Why would someone?" not want heaps of nuisance calls from flakes, scammers, and profiteers. Several good reasons given. Then I get labeled a rascist for simply pointing out the obvious.
