Im heading to Thailand very soon with some friends and have planned the trip for 32 days not knowing that my passport (US) only allows 30 days in the country. Is there anyway I could take care of this in Thailand ? Please need help leaving soon thanks

Go to Immigration at Chaeng Wattana, pay 1900 baht & they will extend it for another 30 days, or get a tourist visa in your country before you leave.

You have three options

1 - Get a tourist visa which allows you a 60 day entry

2 - Get an extension for 1900 Baht

3 - Pay a 1000 Baht overstay fine on departure

Okay thanks I did read that on many other posts I was just making sure. Never want to be unsure half a world away.

Note that if you obtain a tourist visa in advance that would be much better

- will cost you less, $40 vs Bt 1.900.

- avoid a visit to immigration that is no fun

- avoid potential trouble when boarding with no visa and no return ticket withing 30 days - airlines do not consider the possibility that you get an extension.

you can easily obtain a visa by mail from any Thai consulate in your country or even a local honorary consulate.

Please don't be another one of these overstayers.....

The biggest problem that you might have is that without a visa the AIRLINE might not let you board your flight to Thailand unless you have a ticket exiting Thailand within 30 days of your arrival! It's a definite requirement by many airlines.

What that exactly would destroy in your world ?

Don't say where you are. Here;s the website of the consulate in Portland. Call Mary on the telephone, don't send her an email. Many consulates will not issue visas by mail since that is the "official" direction from the MFA, unless it has changed recently. Therefore the reason for calling her.

problem is I don't know where or not I can get this visa in time I have about a 1 week window

If you live near to a consulate you might be able to go to the office and pick up a visa using a same day service.

They offer this in the UK at the honourary consulates.

Took the easy way out, smart choice. No stress and probably cost you less in the long run. Have a nice trip! I came in early 1998 and still have the return ticket in my desk drawer.
