Domestic airports asked to deal with flight delays as a result of foggy weather

BANGKOK, 11 November 2014 (NNT) - The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has instructed airports nationwide to monitor the safety of passengers in a case where a flight is unable to land at its destination due to heavy fog.

A passenger airliner of Nok Air was forced to retreat to Don Muang Airport yesterday after it was unable to make a landing at Lampang International Airport at 7:30am as a result of cloudy skies, which blocked the plane’s visibility level.

Passengers aboard the plane had their flight time delayed and those who were waiting to catch the return flight at Lampang Airport were left stranded. Normally in this kind of scenario, the plane would be forced to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport. However, Nok Air was unable to do so since the nearby Chiang Mai Airport also remained closed, prompting the pilot to bring the plane back to Don Muang.

The DCA said it was difficult to deal with the problem of foggy weather, but the department has instructed airliners to provide food and accommodations to their passengers in this case as well as arrange alternative flights for affected passengers.

Si Sa Ket Police patrol rice farms to prevent thefts of rice and agricultural tools

SI SA KET, 11 November 2014 (NNT) - The Si Sa Ket Provincial Police superintendent Pol. Maj. Gen. Boonyot Boonpaisal has ordered his subordinates to make more frequent visits to rice farms in a bid to prevent thefts of harvested rice and agricultural tools.

According to Pol. Maj. Gen. Boonyot, farmers have been harvesting rice from their fields and sun-drying rice grains near their homes or on roadside before collecting them for sale and for household use.

He said such a practice posed a great risk as the rice would be stolen by unwanted hands.

As a precautionary measure, Pol. Maj. Gen. Boonyot has instructed patrol officers at every police station in the province to keep a lookout on their areas in order to prevent any possible theft of rice. So far, there have not yet been any case of theft.
