webfact Posted November 11, 2014 Share Posted November 11, 2014 China keens to set up plants in ThailandBEIJING, 11 November 2014 (NNT) –The Chinese private sector expressed interest in setting up rubber processing plants and waste management plants in Thailand.The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met with personnel from the private sector in China during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Beijing, China.China’s private sector is interested in setting up rubber processing plants in Thailand but they need help from the Thai government in order to abide with the country’s rules and regulations.The Prime Minister has ordered a committee to study the feasibility of this investment opportunity. If the rubber processing plant can be set up, it would benefit the nation by generating more income through the elevation of rubber price, which is in line with the Government’s policy that promotes adding value to the product.However, everything must proceed accordingly to the regulations of the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), said the Prime Minister.Another interest expressed by the Chinese private sector is the setting up of a waste management plant in Thailand. They are confident that the quality of garbage in Thailand is in good condition, which will allow the plant’s incinerator to generate a high level of heat. While the general tries to make out that all is ok back home investors looking to invest have a lot of options to invest in many countries through out Asia and will do it on their terms. Thailand has the image of coups and shutdowns so investors are looking at more stable countries. If your to desperate then things will go pear shaped very quickly. A lot of Thai (and Malaysian) rubber goes to making latex products. For example, I buy thai latex gloves at $3.80 per 100 (box). Malaysian (quality exactly the same folks) $2.65 Chinese latex (i dunno where they get the rubber from) $1.85!!!! So why would they want to INCREASE the prices when the wholesale price in Thailand is already almost double of production in Thailand. maybe the waste dump is all China wants. CHINA does not make large factory investments in other countries, as they have cheap labour already in China and large very good producing factories. Incineration was briefly sold as the solution to solid waste disposal in the "advanced" industrialized countries. Until it was realized how polluting it is-- burning plastics produces dioxin, one of the worst, most pernicious environmental carcinogens. And there will be heavy metal emissions as well, depending of course on what goes into the incinerator. Now the incinerators that were built in a ten-year span starting in the 80s are largely abandoned in the larger countries. These plants do not require proprietary technology - no intellectual property for the Chinese to transfer to Thailand. You know the Chinese will want favorable tax treatment, exemption from environmnetal regulations, use Chinese machinery & equipment, maybe even Chinese contractors. Design for these plants has been around for years in other countries for plants have been shown to be effective and reliable.
