Prime Minister addresses the 25th ASEAN Summit

BANGKOK, 12 November 2014 (NNT) – Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered a speech during the 25th ASEAN summit thanking member nations for understanding Thailand’s political situation and affirms Thailand’s commitment in ASEAN economic relations.

The Prime Minister began his speech by commending Myanmar in successfully hosting the 25th ASEAN summit and expressed his appreciation in becoming part of the Asean fraternity. He also thanked other member nations for understanding Thailand’s political situation and assured that the nation will be ready for a quick transition into the ASEAN economic community (AEC) in 2015.

General Prayut suggested that 2015 be devoted to logistics and infrastructure development between member nations by standardizing cross-border regulations and procedures as well as designating special economic development zones along the borders to facilitate regional trade.

In order to monitor cross-border issues such as drug and human trafficking, the Prime Minister said member nations needed to agree to a regional action plan as well as the ASEAN Convention on Trafficking in Persons.

Finally, the Prime Minister said ASEAN should swiftly conclude its Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement by 2015 in order to boost trade in the region and promote environmental awareness.

Thai government urged to support vaccine production

BANGKOK, 12 November 2014 (NNT) – The National Vaccine Institute is urging the government to support the production of vaccines, which could be useful in emergency situations and exported overseas.

Director of the National Vaccine Institute Dr. Jarung Muangchana has revealed that Thailand and other ASEAN nations have agreed to promote regional vaccine security to assure a sufficient supply of vaccines in every type of scenario. However, the focus would be on domestic use.

ASEAN so far had insufficient vaccines despite the regional capacity to produce them. ASEAN nations would be encouraged to jointly develop and produce the vaccines as well as create bargaining power when buying the vaccines from other countries.

The director added that Thailand has the capacity to manufacture its own vaccines by World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The government should support the move as it is part of basic necessities. He also believed Thailand would be able to produce enough for export purposes.

BANGKOK: -- The commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau and his deputy were abruptly transferred out of the bureau Tuesday night.

But Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang, the national police chief, who ordered the transfer said briefly that he found the CIB commissioner a capable person and had a bigger job for him to do.
