As one of the aforementioned soap dodgers, please accept my apologies for interrupting your convicts love-in. The OP's English may not be the Queens English but it is a version of English. That's English, cobbers, from England, where the Queen lives. We have Scots, Irish, Welshmen as well as Yanks and Kiwis who also speak different versions of English, but we understand them too, and don't require a patronising translation to do so. I agree with and believe the OP. Handing out cakes is commonplace on public transport, for example, so why not hospitals?
