Pheu Thai says it's ready to offer ideas for new charter
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party yesterday advised the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee of its willingness to meet with the CDC and provide input on the new charter.

The CDC had requested the party's cooperation.

But Pheu Thai expressed concerns over the National Council for Peace and Order's ban on political gatherings, saying it affected the party's ability to discuss the issue.

"The Pheu Thai Party is pleased to cooperate and take part in providing views regarding the drafting of the new constitution in order make it most democratic and in order [that the charter] can be a guarantee for justice for the country and people from all sides in accordance to what the party and the international community adhere to and accept," it said in a letter to the committee.

The party also urged the CDC to coordinate with the NCPO and the Election Commission to allow party members to meet in order to discuss the charter.

It also stated that it believed that the sovereign power belonged to the people and the party had faith in the democratic system with His Majesty the King as head of the state.

The party concluded by saying it awaited the reply and the date for the meeting with the CDC.

The Democrat, Palang Chon and Bhum Jai Thai parties have also expressed willingness to meet with the CDC, committee spokesman Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said.

He said it was likely that the Pheu Thai Party would want to defer its meeting from Monday to early December.

The Democrat Party would meet with the CDC on November 24.

Taking a positive stance

"We think positively but must accept that the political stances of some groups are in opposition to this political change, so it becomes a hindrance," he said. "But we will try to carry out the duty to the best of our ability."

As for the request to have the CDC contact the junta to seek permission to allow political parties to meet, Kamnoon said the committee would not do that because it was not duty-bound to so, while the government and the NCPO had asked parties wishing to meet to seek permission from the junta.

I wonder what the very aptly named "Democracy" party will suggest to turn their miserable minority into the new Government of Thailand ? . something more subtle than a military take over one would hope

I think its futile on their part. Watch how many people are in favour of the Junta/Democrats when they have a chance to vote , I doubt 93% as the "Polls" suggest

There won't be a vote anytime soon.

The Junta will roll out Suthep again, get him to cause a bit of trouble, and then say they are postponing an election for security and safety purposes, and because national reconciliation has not been achieved.

Yeah but who are they going to protest against, The Junta ? As long as PTP play the game , Thaksin calling for reconciliation and telling Reds to be good a couple of months ago. I think this was the last throw of the dice and although they still hold power , as soon as elections happen them and their ilk are history

Plodprasob says Pheu Thai will not join charter writing process

Pheu Thai says it's ready to offer ideas for new charter

Today

Looks like PTP are still operating like a well oiled machine, clear cohesive policies and a clear vision.

Yesterday? Actually 13th November:

Plodprasob says Pheu Thai will not join charter writing process

He pointed out that the party could not send an official representative to meet the CDC but could, at best, offer some general views about the charter such as protection of the liberty and right for equal treatment and a true democratic rule.

Mr Plodprasob further said that any official view of the party concerning the charter would have to be discussed in the party or, at least, in the executive committee. He suggested that the martial law be eased to allow political parties to hold meetings.

So there we have it, rather than ramrod711's skewed take on proceedings in an attempt to make political "points" where there are none to be made, what we actually have is, same story, same outcome, different media sources...............................coffee1.gif

Not sure I follow YOUR skewed take on it either ... Thaksin's party have clearly said in various news sources over the past few weeks/months that they will not take part in the process, and then yesterday/today they announce they will.

Not wanting to be in negative territory, I can't help but thinking watch the fine print or the double meaning , for a crowd that has cause 2 Coups in ten years and divided Thailand , one really would be hard pressed to hear a kind comment on their performance, however everyone is entitled to their day in the Prayuth sun, including this lot , whether anybody listens is another thing altogether coffee1.gif

Pathetic.

Well thank you for your incisive argument - care to expand on why it's "pathetic"?

New orders have come through from the boss, but there are conditions.

The conditions are the worry .

No worry mate, the conditions are just put there to make it look like they have some control over the situation and of course an excuse for not taking part should there be another change.

As in 'you wouldn't do as we asked so we wont participate'

We wait to see if their boss has enough confidence in any of them to actually let them speak.

Really, I believe you'll find that the PTP said they would not join the CDC. If you can point me to sources where they said they would not offer ideas I'll be grateful.

and way back in July, their ideas were the same;

23rd July 2014

BANGKOK — The ruling party of the former government will not send any members to join the "National Reform Council" outlined in Thailand’s new interim constitution, sources inside the Pheu Thai Party say.

two options for opposition parties

1) completely boycott the 'reform' process.

2) participate, and publicly call for and propose a democratic constitution which will be rejected anyway

It's not an easy choice, but then, neither option will change the outcome of the 'reforms'.

He probably considered the source. Your argument is pathetic and pedantic, as usual. Bottom line, first theysaid repeatedly that they wouldn't, now they will. Probably starting to realize how irrelevant they are.

See Post #21 and just see if you can make a reasoned argument without resorting to insults...................................coffee1.gif

Really unbelievable. Anything to add about terrorist firing grenades into civilians and murdering children ? - or do you consider that to be fair response because someone dare go on the streets to protest ?.

Did you cheer as well when you heard about the girl murdered by the grenades in Trat ?. Let me guess : in your warped brain you blame Suthep for that too.

When a member posts like this -it hurts as it's too much cope with--truth. If they respond it is usually a twist to the topic, as there is very little to compare. Or the big drugs killings----few responses unless they can see a glimmer of an opening to wedge into.

13/11/14 Plodprasob - "The Pheu Thai party will not participate in any activities staged by the government set up by the military junta, including the drafting of a new constitution"

2 days later - The Pheu Thai Party yesterday advised the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee of its willingness to meet with the CDC and provide input on the new charter.

Even when they are not in power they have no direction, no commitment, no synergy and no hope.

I assume Chalerm will promise to behead himself if they are involved in the charter tomorrow.

What a profession outfit the PTP are!!!

It is as simple as this, What achievements did this elected government amass ??? 3 years of mega problems ending in complete disgrace.

Believe it or not there is a rumour on TVF that some are complaining about the PM. 55555555555 Ha Ha Ha

I believe the least they could do is going for option 2, allthough I agree, choosing option 1 would result in the exact same constitution.

As much as they are a pack of scumbags there were some that had some merit and ability and they are still going to be a part of the politicial process again at some stage and need to be included back into the process. Better now to give all politicial parties some involvement and buy in to the process. After all it is only their input as part of a larger group that is being invited so the NRC is not bound to take their views above others. Khun Prayuth would be wise to ease of restrictions on genuine politicial party meetings discussing reform input. A huge difference in that to the PDRC idiots and Red and UDD thugs running rampant which is more what the enforcement of the Martial Law Act should be targeted at.

The conditions are the worry .

The condition is a relaxation on martial law so they can legally meet and discuss inputs. Why does that worry you?
