Venezuelan Tourist Narrowly Escapes Sexual Assault By Ex-Soldier
By Khaosod English

PRACHUAP KIRI KHAN — A former solder has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a Venezuelan tourist on a beach in the popular resort town of Hua Hin last night.

Adirek Nuchantuek, 31, was arrested after a tourist told police he attempted to sexually assault her while she was sitting alone on the beach last night.

According to the tourist, Adirek charged at her from behind and pushed her down to the ground. He then reportedly tried to take off her clothes, but when her smartphone fell out of her pocket, he let go of her and tried to grab the phone instead.

The tourist said she took the opportunity to run away, shouting for help along the way.

Using the tourist’s descriptions, police found Adirek near the beach where the attempted rape allegedly took place.

Police say he confessed to the crime and led police officers to the spot where he discarded the tourist's smart phone.

Not sure why exsoldier would be used to describe the molestor/thief. The object of the attack (lady) was reported as being from Venenezuela where was the attacker/thief from?

Considering he was an ex-soldier, then I would assume he was from Thailand.

Pretty sure Burmese can't enlist.

But anyway.... Seems that rape/murder of tourists is becoming quite a common Thai passtime with Thais. Maybe it is the loud message the RTP are sending out via the KT case and the lack of desire to build a case against five Thais who admitted murdering a German on Samui etc etc etc..... That is is fine to try your hand against a farang, it is more likely you will at worst come up against a police force and establishment with little desire to punish Thais in case it confirms to the world that there is a problem.

Typical Thai.... head in sand = problem doesn't exist.

Let's see what happens to this guy.... Oh wait, we will never find out. This story will be hushed up on orders from the junta.

Doesn't say which country he served. I am an ex-soldier, but certainly not Thai.

Not true that Thais don't get punished for rape of tourists.

One Thai dude got life for rape of 2 Russian ladies in Pattaya.

They went down hard on him so others with the same idea thinks twice.

Try following this story:

http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/3-arrested-in-kidnapping-rape-of-russian-tourists-20362

Young beutiful blond women from the West (or East) are really turning on Asian males since all their own women are black haired so they have to be carefull about what they do.

Here we go again!

Thais are bad and corrupt, unlike the rest of the world where all is sweetness and light.

Remember when the British police shot and murdered a Brazilian tourist who they thought was an arab terrorist?

6 bullets pumped into him on a rush hour train.

London metropolitan Police exonerated.

Or was that the Thais fault as well?

This happeneed in Thailand and not the UK. Comparing two different countries, two different police agencies, two different judicial systems is pointless.

Finding guilt is the domain of the Thai judicial system. Those that point fingers at Thais or others are certainly free to do so. Whether the finger-pointing is valid is debatable.

Isn't military service somewhat mandatory in Thailand? So most males could be called "ex-soldier". And families like sons to go off to temple for 3 months, so could even stretch description as "ex-monk". Bit of egg on face for police vowing to protect tourists.... besides being impossible to guarantee, being a new role for police likely to be many errors.

While I do not condone rape or sexual assault in the slightest I do wonder why people seem to travel to strange countries then appear to do things they would not sensibly do in their own country. Although the article does not mention the time/hour I doubt she would have stayed on a beach alone at night in her own country. This applies equally to people who do drugs and get blind drunk.

No it was the illegal immigrant Brazilian's fault. He chose to run when challenged and ordered to stop, holding a back pack at a time of heightened security shortly after terrorist attacks on public transport had caused many fatalities in London. Don't dress it up.

He was an illegal immigrant but that is not the point. Because of Islamic terrorism, the once unarmed British Police have to make quick judgement calls for the sake of our security. Such comments criticising the English police out of context plays into the hands of terrorists and murders. Shame on you.

Rather strange story how a rapists attempts are distracted by a smartphone and changes his intentions.

So was the primary intent to steal and the rape secondary?

Its pretty obvious that Thailand is not a safe place for women to sit alone especially if your young and attractive.

If its in the wee hours and a secluded place then your risks increase 100 fold.

Even with the best law enforcement system and harsh sentencing sometimes good common sense is the best prevention though I still advocate chemical castration for repeat offenders.
