Noticed today that the Tops market at Central Chidlom in BKK, and so presumably the other larger Tops markets in farang areas, are having quite a good sale on frozen U.S. Butterball turkeys and frozen turkey breasts.

The shelf sale cards say the sale ends 11/25, which is tonight, though they don't always seem to stick to those. Lots of turkeys in their freezer section.

I know the sale prices are legit, for example, the 439b per kilo price for a frozen whole turkey breast, regularly priced 590b per kilo. I know this because, unfortunately, I paid 590b per kilo for exactly the same turkey breast at Villa Market the day before. sad.png

Meanwhile, in another similar episode. I noticed that Villa was asking 125b per box for the Stove Top Stuffing mix made by Kraft, whereas Tops on their website was advertising the same product for 99b per box, again, through tonight. So I went to Central Chidlom tonight to buy those boxes, and to my surprise, the shelf sticker priced them at 113b per box. But, when I went to check out, they actually scanned at 49b per box!!!! So, I bought all the 4 boxes they had remaining on the shelf there.

You gotta love the weird, mysterious world of Thai retailing. And before anyone suggests it, no, the Stove Top stuffing mix boxes weren't expired or otherwise damaged. Just regular retail stock.

fyi, I was back at Tops Central Chidlom today, and they had extended the sale on their various frozen turkey items until at least Dec. 9, according to the updated promotion shelf tags on those items.

They also had restocked their shelf of Stove Top stuffing mix boxes, after I bought the lot last night (they only have room for about 5 boxes on the shelf at a time, in one single narrow- depth shelf row, located above the freezer section on the oppose side of where the turkeys are kept.

Wish I had seen your post earlier.

Just paid Baht 635 for a Butterball Turkey Breast at RIMPING Airport (Chiang Mai) funny how Rimping Supermarkets were so good for so long BUT over past year, prices have gone way up, service i.e. at the Checkout has gone down the drain and Price stickers are missing on many products.

When you point these matters out to staff, you get that well known, "Blank Stare" and a look that says you "should go back where you came from." MAYBE it is time???

Well, unawares of the Tops promotion, I paid about 590b at Villa in BKK... And, after all, it costs a bit extra to have all those turkeys fly up to CM... So don't feel too bad!!! tongue.png

Or, from another perspective, most of the ordinary Thanksgiving day buffets around BKK are running close to 1,000 baht per person, and that's not at the fancy places and name hotels at such, which are up to double or more than price per person.

So for those prices, the home purchase tends to go a lot way. I can remember exactly, but last year, I must have gotten at least six or more servings out of the one turkey breast we cooked, so it comes out to a bit more than 100 baht per serving. That still leaves a lot of room in the home cooking budget before you start approaching the restaurant and hotel prices.
