I got this informations from my visa agent. I know him since 7 years. He have plenty of experience in these things. So, believe it or not. I do. Two times a week he escort groups trough the entire visa run process.

Ubonjoe gave in some threads the same advise, although he didn't mention a specific amount of money.

Yes, i did all my previous TR double entry visa extend on the Immigration. Extend 30 days for every entry.

For my last trip, i didn't take the proof of these requirements since it was only the second visa from Vientiane on the current passport. Next time i will go to Savannakhet which will break the chain on back to back visas from Vientiane. But this is not the reason why i will go to Savannakhet. The reason is, the recently trip to Vientiane was messed up. The embassy was completely overcrowd. Then the same thing next day at the border. I got a queue number above 670.

Eventually, i stay already 7 1/2 years in Thailand on TR visa. Nothing wrong with that, since i don't work anything and never do overstay.

Check this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/755832-problems-with-tourist-visa-in-vientiane-laos/

Actually it says the same thing...

A friend/neighbor came back from Vientiane last week. After a visa run. He got his Tourist visa but also two stamps in his passport:

1.

The holder of this passport travels to Thailand under a tourist visa several times which may result in the refusal of a visa in the future

.2. Proofs of Residence and financial income are required next time

Ok thanks for the reply. I'll have to take this into consideration when I go to Vientiane next in January.

Shouldn't be a problem for me though as my current visa is from Penang.

Cheers.

I just came back from Vientiane with a new double entry visa. No problems at all. About 700 peoples in the queue. It was my worst visarun ever.

For people who want to apply a 3rd or 4th visa there, they should show up a rental-contract for their house or condo and the bankbook with at least 40 000 Baht for each month. 6 months x 40 000 = 240 000 Baht. This money should be in the bank account for the previous 6 months. It's not necessary that the money came by a bank wire from abroad. I asked this, because i brought Euros from my home country in cash to Thailand.

That' said; stay as long you want, as long you provide the embassy with the right paperwork. Much better then the ed-visa thing....

This makes little sense to me.

Firstly, why would a tourist be renting a house or a condo long term? Surely a genuine tourist will be moving around quite a bit and won't be getting contracts on a condo. Maybe a hotel/guesthouse.

Secondly, those figures are ridiculous. 40k per month? The border crossing only asks for 20k per entry which is 2 months.

A double entry tourist visa only lasts 4 months unless you extend it so that 240k figure goes out the window straight away.

Something doesn't add up here. Who gave you this information? A tout or the actual embassy?

Did you just happen to take proof of these requirements along with you just in case?

That's the BIG problem with Thailand, none of these rules make little sense to anyone with half a brain cell. But what do us Farangs know??
