ronthompson
I really would like to see an informational forum that can answer questions we each have on life in Burriram area. Does anyone know of a store like Pan Tip in BKK in the Serin-Burriram area that sells DVDs and computer programs?
Thaddeus
Nothing the size of Pantip Ron, but I know quite a few IT shops in both Suin and Buriram that are quite good, and if they haven't got what you want they will get it for you.

MISTERBONK
Which is correct Burriram or is it Buriram and what about BuliRam? It's a Thai name so any translation is open to speculation. The Bangkok Post and the Nation newspapers frequently use different spellings for politicians names. It is often spelt BURIRUM. What about BULILUM or BULILAM However BURIRAM seems to be the most usual spelling
Iambabababor
The point of my little story was so far over your head that u could not understand it, for that I am sorry. Sorry Ron, but you are mistaken. I fully understood the point of your story. Although I have never met you or your family, my concern was for the well being and happiness of your sister in law. Expecting a large dowry from a humble Thai man with a pipe shop in Bangkok, who like sister in law is seeking a partner in life, and is prepared to take on board her child as well, is very wrong in my opinion, and clearly wrong to many other foreigners. Culture and custom have nothing to do with it. I have seen dowry demands ruin the chances of marriage of a few women, whilst others who have gone ahead have had their marriages flounder within a year due to the ever mounting debt they have incurred by borrowing the dowry money. Some mothers should be ashamed of themselves, and on one occasion I told a mother as much when I took over the outstanding loan of a recently married neighbour, who, together with his new wife, was paying 20% a month interest on his dowry loan. They were working so much overtime just to pay off the interest that they had virtually no time to spend together. You go on to tell us that you did not pay any money for your wife other than a couple of gold trinkets to your mother in law, and yet you appear to condone mother's hoped for 100,000Bt ++. Yes we all have dreams, Thai mothers too. But surely her dream should be for the happiness of her daughter, not a fistfull of money!
Thaddeus
do u have an address or number for one in Buriram? Sorry Ron, I don't, but it is just round the corner from The Bamboo Bar, heading back towards the main road. The owner is very helpful and speaks a little English. johnsurin
Yesterday I had occasion to be in Prasat for the afternoon and decided to spend the night, too much Leo and wine. We stay at the Leelawadee Resort and were very happy with our room. If u happen to be in the Prasat area and decide not to drive home James runs a cozy little place (04 453 2288). Beats driving home at night. Yep nice place, and James is a real nice guy to go with it. Well worth stopping off there if you ever find yourself stranded from a trip over the border and you don't fancy driving home. John.....

Whilst in Phuket I was able to get a lot of current movies on DVD if you know what I mean. Can current movies be had with English soundtrack or subtitles? Mac B I see you have moved, hope all went well. Re spelling, so far I have seen : Buriram Buri Ram Buri Rum Burirum The other one is Amphur or Amphoe but really, who cares it beats being in England!!!
