Police in Bangkok are searching for three teenagers after a motorcycle allegedly struck a woman crossing at a pedestrian crossing outside Bangpakok 1 Hospital on Suksawat Road. The woman, named as Miss Wilaiporn, later died in hospital from severe injuries. The collision happened at about 6.38am on 25 August, on the stretch of Suksawat Road between Soi Suksawat 25/1 and 25/2. The rider and two passengers reportedly left the scene after the crash. Family says riders did not help Fiat, 42, the victim's nephew, said his aunt had left home to visit Bangpakok market. She was crossing from the IMH Hospital side of the road towards Bangpakok 1 Hospital when she reached the central reservation. He said she looked out from behind a barrier to check for oncoming traffic, then stepped out to continue crossing when the motorcycle hit her with great force. CCTV footage collected by the family appeared to show Wilaiporn being thrown from the far-right traffic lane into the left lane, a distance estimated at 100 to 200 metres. The motorcycle reportedly skidded along the barrier before coming to a stop nearby. Members of the public came to her assistance and a hospital vehicle took her for treatment. Doctors found multiple fractures, abdominal bleeding and bleeding on the brain. She required CPR twice before later dying in hospital. According to Fiat, the motorcycle carried two men and one woman. He said footage showed the woman, who was sitting at the back, returning to collect belongings near the collision point but not approaching the injured woman. The three then stood together for a time, he said. The two men subsequently rode away on the motorcycle, while local people told the family that another motorcycle later collected the woman. Concerns over crossing visibility Fiat said construction barriers and vinyl signs at the crossing may have obstructed pedestrians' view of approaching vehicles, forcing people to lean out to see traffic. He also said there was no official on hand to assist people crossing the road. He urged relevant agencies to provide staff, warning signals or other safeguards where zebra crossings remain open during construction. He also appealed to road users, especially motorcyclists, to slow down and take extra care near crossings. Police appeal for footage The family wants those involved traced and prosecuted, particularly because they allegedly did not help Wilaiporn despite remaining nearby for several minutes. Fiat said the family might have been willing to discuss or mediate over the accident had the riders stopped and assisted her, but they now want the case pursued to the fullest extent. Rat Burana Police are reviewing CCTV footage at the scene and along possible escape routes to identify the motorcycle and all three people involved. The family has asked anyone travelling past Bangpakok 1 Hospital on Suksawat Road between 6.20am and 6.50am on 25 August with dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV images to contact them or police.
