NACC to conclude probe into G2G rice deal this month

BANGKOK, 8 December 2014 (NNT) - The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has affirmed results from the investigation into the scandal surrounding the previous government’s rice trade deal with China will be brought to the NACC’s general meeting within this month for conclusion.

NACC Chairman Panthep Klanarongran spoke regarding the progress of the anti-graft investigation into the government-to-government (G2G) agreement on rice trade allegedly made between the Yingluck Shinawatra administration and the Chinese government.

The Chairman revealed that the investigation committee has questioned all related witnesses in the case and will present its conclusions to the NACC general meeting by the end of December to deliberate whether it would be able to convict the accused of corruption or not.

Among the defendants in the case are former Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom and his then-deputy Phum Sarapol. They are accused of fabricating the news of striking a G2G contract with China to sell rice obtained from farmers under the rice pledging scheme.

Would that be this one or one of the others ?

Rice deals with China fake : opposition
Democrats produce evidence of a dummy firm tied to govt figures
BANGKOK: -- The opposition has established a link between the government's rice-pledging scheme and massive money laundering by producing evidence of a dummy company, individuals and old ghosts like President Agri Trading and Siam Indica, which could be found involved in non-existent rice deals.

There is a whole screed that makes very interesting reading.

Wonder why the comrades from the Shins' propaganda brigade are so quiet today? Sheltering for the incoming heavy artillery shells fired by the NACC? Or, a miracle, common sense etching in their brains at last? Can't be because the paychecks have not arrived, cause they're all idealists...

will be great to see the shins "scapegoats " get tossed into jail for all the fraudulent sh*t they have been involved in while in govt, couldnt happen to more deserving people.

I don't know what will be the outcome of this one. But it would be better to first establish evidence of corruption, as this case may serve to, and THEN file charges. At least that's the way it works in countries with a fair justice system.

What we have seen is the reverse: first decide that Yingluck is guilty and file charges, then establish evidence if any (i.e. this case, the rice audit which has just been completed, etc...). Strange way of working......

Ins't it obvious that no one really bother about this Micky mouse agency and what they are doing?

You seem to be the only Mickey Mouse in this discussion. The NACC have always been shackled by previous governments of doing anything useful but now they may finally have some teeth.

Wasn't there some evidence of forged export deals with the rice actually being sold domestically? Spouse of an air line entrepreneur connected to Siam Indica?

Another mire of deceit and lies, but highly profitable to some, created by the master and strategic thinker.

Thaksin aide jailed for rice fraud

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Samut Prakarn provincial court Tuesday sentenced a close aide to ex-pm Thaksin Shinawatra to six years in jail and fined him Bt12,000 after finding him guilty of embezzlement and fraud for his failure to deliver a Bt200-million rice shipment to Iran.

The defendant, 50-year-old Apichat Chansakunporn, alias Sia Pieng, managing director of President Agri Co Ltd, and a close Thaksin aide, was prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney-General on embezzlement charges.

The court was told they took place during the Yingluck government when his company failed to deliver 20,000 tonnes of 5 per cent broken rice destined for Iran.

The court said the defendant violated the contract signed with the Commerce Ministry and embezzled the rice after his company sold the 20,000 tonnes of rice, which his company was obligated to deliver to Iran, to another country.
