Pls advise, Indian citizen with tourist visa upon getting extension

Featured Replies

May I enquire for an Indian friend of mine who is currently volunteering in a far away village in Korat,

he has tourist visa(2 months) which is due 31st of December,

He wishes to extend for a month as how he understands that tourist visa can be extended.

and he would like to apply for it perhaps 2 weeks before the visa is dued to avoid the upcoming holiday.

I have tried calling Korat immigration, at time the lady imm. was quite busy and responsed bluntly that the indian national can only have 7 days extensions on tourist visa and pay 1900 Bht. She cann't be confused cause I stated his circumstance twice.. unless she just felt like I was a nuisance at time or something like that..

To get just 7 days extension on tourist visa is somewhat ponderable ...I understand that indian national can not apply for a tourist visa in Laos..

Could you please share your advise to correct my understanding?

1. indian citizen with tourist visa(2 month) could he have a 30 day extension like everybody else?

how long before his visa is dued could he proceed with the application and will the date be counted add on to the existing one on the pprt?

2. if he would to get only 7 days. Could he choose to go to other consulate perhaps Cambodia or Vietnam to get the tourist visa?

Appreciate your responses cordially,

Utmost regards

Bphu

Indian citizens cannot get the 30 day extension for a tourist visa entry. He can only apply for a 7 day extension and be given 7 days to leave.

I don't think he will be able to another tourist visa at any nearby location.

He could cross to Laos at the bridge in Nong Kai get a Lao visa on arrival ($40 or 1500 baht) and return to Thailand to get a 15 day visa on arrival for a fee of 1000 baht. See: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15393-Visa-on-Arrival.html

If he's doing volunteer work he should get a proper visa and work permit. that would take care of his problem, and make his stay here legal.

I was just wondering how the thread had not received yet the pearl of wisdom and never missing legal advice.. relieving.

Thanks very much TerrLH for your advice.

Life experience these days branches out in dear franchise .. Volunteering is on one of those known assembly lines.

He is paying to be a volunteer not the other way around ..

Upholding your point of view I really do TerrLH.. yet not always practical particularly upon his circumstance .. 'cause he is a traveller.

Wish you the best,

Thanks!
