Probe into murders of Japanese men complete

BANGKOK: -- Police will today submit the results of their investigations into the murders of two Japanese men allegedly by a Thai couple to public prosecutors.

The suspects are Phornchanok Chaiyapa and Somchai Kaewbangyang. Both are in detention.

Bang Sao Thao Police Station superintendent Lt-Colonel Somsakchai Amornsongcharoen yesterday disclosed that police would ask public prosecutors to pursue four charges against the suspects for their alleged role in the killing of 79-year-old Yoshinori Shimato.

According to police, the elderly Japanese man was killed in October while he was sleeping in Phornchanok's house.

As this case made headlines, the daughter of another Japanese man came forward asking police to re-investigate her father's death. Her father, Katsutoshi Tanaka, was married to Phornchanok when he died in 2003 allegedly from a fall down a staircase.

"For Tanaka's death, we will ask public prosecutors to indict the suspects for premeditated murder," Somsakchai said, adding that police have solid evidence.
