I think the marriage would have been much different if he had shown more initiative around the farm, learned some of the language and, in general -- acted like a husband (and partner) instead of a child (or pet) that expected to be taken care of forever. Is it any wonder she simply lost interest?

No, not after he paid for everything.

First of all, the Thai being spoken here was hardly higher-level academic Thai with advanced vocabulary. I've studied Thai for several years and had absolutely no trouble understanding what the women were saying. They spoke clearly, in standard Thai, which they probably perfected while working in Bangkok.

Tip had never been with a foreigner when she decided to leave that low-paying job in the plastics factory to go work in the bar. She did it to take care of her daughter, for whom she has high hopes. Interestly, they had a brief visit to a school room in her hometown, where they asked the girls what they wanted to be when they grew up "doctor", "teacher" was the reply. The teacher said "most will be farmers". This was after they showed the Issan women venerating the statue of Ya Mo in Korat and told a version of the historical story that Ya Mo leading the local women in getting the invading soldiers drunk and slitting their throats to save their country. Issan women have been taking care of themselves for a long time.

Later in the film she also commented about how her husband never went home (presumably to England) and never did any work. Of course, everyone has noticed how he was never far from a bottle of Chang and a cigarette. For someone who professed to be broke, he seems to have funds for those habits.

Don't fancy watching it again bit I seem to remember he did start off working with the pigs, and paying for it all- you can't get much more involved than that can you. It is not stated that he could not speak any Thai. Of course she lost interest - as soon as she had fleeced him for the lot. She says at one point she like falang cos they jai dee, too much so in this guys case. You are right he should have acted more like a (thai) husband and kicked the crap out of her, shot the pigs and burned down the house, after shagging her best mate. whistling.gif

My condo, car and furniture all bought in my name, the only thing in the T/g/f name is the Tot bill and the True vision bill, and she has no access to my bank account, I would not trust any woman enough to hand over all my assets to. whether she be Thai or Western

And lets face facts after two failed marriages 13 years and 32 years both women decided to play up with other guys, the only love I believe in is the love for your kids and your dog it is unconditional whether you are rich or poor, you would give your life for your kids and your dog would give it's life for you

I think you misread it, a dogs love for it's master is real devotion, advise to me when i came to Thailand was " Do not get into anything financial or emotional that you can't happily walk away from "

If you have the perfect partner in the perfect relationship you are one of the rare ones or have a bald spot on your head where her thumb rests

As for cheating wives and husbands why does anybody cheat so many do it for many reasons and I am determined that I will not be shafted, my brother had a great wife and kids but was a habitual cheated he blamed ego and the availability ready and willing women both married and single

When he says "nobody judges me here", he means his sad mates that are doing the same thing, not the people he walks past in the street that are appalled by the old pervy.
