"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Thailand's "cybercop" gone rogue???

yahoo and msn are out

CAT had a problem with the upstream provider of its international gateway (IIG). This is Thailand's "single point of failure."

Udon ASDL was down for quite some time as was TOT 1222. which i tried to use as a standby.

They are now restored to service again, obviously some sort of internet provider hick up again.

Most of the time it,s o.k. mind so no complaints from me on the service.

marshbags :o:D:D

Let me guess, frozen chicken was not an acceptable form of payment for the monthly bill. :o

Ahhh.... more problem's with Insight's tubes: :o :

Why The Internet Has Problems

But I'm just glad they could unclog the tubes finally.... :D

Actually it seems it wasn't anything to do with the international gateway :o

This is the report our comms people sent me about yesterdays incident

At 10 Aug 2006, 15:13 SGT / 08:13 GMT, proactively observed that the

internet services was down. Immediately troubleshoot problem and found that the outage was at the Thailand end.

15:25 SGT - informed by our vendor that this outage had affected multiple

circuits.

15:44 SGT - Initial investigation from local Telco was that there is a problem in the

domestic end between Petchaburi C/S to Satun C/S. They are seeing alarm from STM4

and they are waiting for site engineer to provide findings.

15:58 SGT - Confirmed that the problem was not due to international SMW3 outage.

Outage could be related to domestic issue.

16:14 SGT - Further investigation found that it is related to a domestic submarine

problem in Koh Samui between Petchaburi CS and Songkla/Satun CS. Suspected

either repeater/cable cut/power problem but vendor has yet to confirm and we were

advised that there is no reroute available. The outage had brought impact to about 300

circuits at their local end. Had informed STC shift manager on the issue.

16:29 SGT - Circuit down is found to be power failure at Samui Island and the UPS

failed to kick in. Power was turned back on and Services resumed

All good stuff :D

EDIT: Just wanted to add its also possible that CAT had an outage at the same time, but our company doesn't use CAT and we had the same problem ;-) no international websites accessable. Coincidence? :D

Jeez, I feel bad now, I bollocked my IT department yesterday afternoon, gave them a good 5 mins of verbal.

So it was all Samui's fault..... how typical... :o

The first sentence above was the message CAT sent ISPs when the problem started. The international gateway and all the circuits connecting to the landing points of the international circuits are in Thailand (and operated by CAT), so in that sense it is a "domestic issue," but it affects international connectivity.

Does anyone else have this problem [no Yahoo etc.] on a regular basis. Happens in Chumphon all the time. Makes me furious when I cannot get TV. GIVE ME THAIVISA NOW GODDAMMIT!

Interesting :D We don't use CAT for our international gateway. We use SingTel who also have an international gateway managed themselves in Thailand (at least thats what our ops guys tell me!)......probably why our notification was differant to the one you got....seem maybe it was coincidence it happened at the same time!
