Long Tourist Visa with multiple re-entry

Featured Replies

I have a few questions about the multiple entry visas.

I am an American in his early 30s looking to base myself in Bangkok and travel extensively in SE Asia between early January and late April. The way my itinerary looks right now I will have between 5 and 6 different exits from Thailand and, hopefully, returning to an apartment that I have setup in Bangkok in between. I plan to go to the embassy in New York this week fill out an application for a tourist visa and attempt to get the longest possible visa allowable with as many re-entrys as I can.

What is the maximum number of re-entries I can request on the application? They do not specify a limit but most here talk about only single and double entry visas. Will I be penalized for requesting too many?

The application asks for a duration of proposed stay. I plan on seeking a 60 day visa then request an extension upon arrival in Bangkok. Should I specify the compete duration of my stay or just say 60 days?

January until late April spans longer than 90 days but my total duration in Thailand subtracting my other trips is far less than that. Should I attempt to apply for multiple tourist visas rather than 1 very long visa with extensions?

I am trying to figure out how to accommodate my planned itinerary while staying on the right side of the law.

A tourist visa is only issued with a maximum of 3 entries.

You cannot apply for an extension on arrival. You have to wait until you are near the end of your first 60 day entry and apply for it at an immigration office.

You could get a single entry tourist visa and then do the remainder of your entries visa exempt. You would get 30 days on each entry.

If your first trip out of the country is within 30 days and you will have a ticket for it you could make your entire trip by getting visa exempt entries.

Great. That was very clear.

So to confirm, as long as I dont stay for longer than 30 days at a time I should be able to do the entire trip with exempt entries? I believe the longest stint on my planned itinerary physically in Thailand is two and a half weeks.

It seems you could do your entire trip on visa exempt entries. The reason you need a ticket out within 30 days is for the airline at check in for your flight here. They can deny boarding if you do not have one.

If you have a stay of more than 30 days you can extend your entry for 30 days at an immigration office.
