Police to reorganize emergency vehicles of charity foundations

BANGKOK: -- Metropolitan police today invited representatives of charity foundations to a meeting aimed at reorganising all unauthorised emergency and rescue vehicles to the same standards.

Action by the metropolitan police came after the police received numerous complaints from motorists and the people that they felt their safety were threatened by some drivers of emergency and rescue vehicles belonging to charity foundations when they rushed to rescue injured people in road accidents or any other crimes.

Some drove very fast and some even jumped red lights which could risk causing double accidents.

Metropolitan police deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak said representatives attending the meeting came from the Erawan Centre operated by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Por Teck Tueng, Ruam Katanyu charity foundations, and other relevant organisations.

He said the meeting was aimed at reorganising all emergency and rescue vehicles to meet safety standards as some are unauthorised and have no proper equipments.

He said so far the police have arrested drivers of 12 emergency vehicles for unsafe driving following complaints.

Under the reorganising plan, all emergency and rescue vehicles are required to be installed with necessary auxiliary equipments, lightings, sirens, and other rescue equipments that meet international standards.

Besides, all rescue workers and staff working on these vehicles must undergo necessary official training, and must be authorised.

All emergency and rescue vehicles will be given certified stickers before they could be used in emergency cases.

Emergency vehicles also need to obtain official permits to install auxiliary devices such as sirens and lights, he said.

There are three Police , Ambulance and Fire-brigade unless you are fully qualified and have a certificate that say's you can do this type of work issued by either the Government or the controlling institution, you are acting illegally and should be prosecuted acting outside the proper organization , I know that originally the emergency charity response was better than the authorised one, however , what do you know about back injuries, head injuries, the damage done with an illegal lift can prove fatal and what about the charity being sued due to negligence .coffee1.gif

The motorists where I live basically ignore speeding ambulances with sirens blaring. I tell my wife how expensive such actions would be in my home country, not to mention what poor form it is.

Time for the BIB to start patrolling roads and issuing moving citations. No joke...I know they will pocket most of the 'fines' but it could prove a deterrance against some of the shenanigans that I see.

Most of the so called rescue/ambulance vehicles are not there to help live casualties only to remove the deceased. By doing so they earn merit in temple and money as well. They certainly do not do it for nothing. In the past they have even fought and killed each other over who gets to remove the body, I believe there was a case last year where two different groups of people from various organisations ended up in a fight over a body. The whole system needs an overall but TIT.

Speaking of emergency vehicles, does anyone know why Thai motorists do not move over for emergency vehicles? I'm not talking about those from charity foundations... I'm talking about actual ambulances and fire engines - with lights and siren blaring, I must add. Bad enough that they don't move over, some even try to 'outrace' the emergency vehicles.

These crazy cars, look like a Christmas tree, come from every-where with their crazy drivers.

They use their flash and siren when they want to move, not only for emergency case, this reason why Thais don't care them.

One-time came a car with high activity, but no-one let it go, then the driver told to the microphone:

" ... Please let us go, this time we really carry some-one in need ... "

And another times?

'... some even jumped red lights which could risk causing double accidents.' By which, presumably, they mean one in addition to the one already waiting to happen?

Perhaps the police should, instead, approach the problem from the other direction, with legislation requiring traffic to give way to emergency vehicles on call.

Hey, that is no fun. I will miss the running gun battles as they used to fight over bodies.

Hands down one of the most bizarre aspects of Thai culture. Also run by the Chinese.

And it is ALL about money, not this making merit bullshit..... Do research on

the body snatchers, it is very interesting.
