KANCHANABURI: -- The 3.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Kanchanaburi's Srisawat district Tuesday night has no impact on the Srinakharin hydroelectric dam in Srisawat, director of the dam Mr Tanarat Phumakasikoirn assured yesterday.

The earthquake with epicentre 10 kilometres es underground happened at 11.58 pm on Tuesday, according to the Seismological Bureau.

Mr Tanarat said that the seismometers installed at the dam site measured no unusual movement of the ground.

The device measured only 0.0015 g. force on the crest zone which is far below design, he said.

The quake, therefore has no impact on Srinakharin and other dams in adjacent areas such as Vajiralongkorn.

He assured Srinakharin dam remain strong and stable.

Surely not, no impact. They knew it a few hours later. Best equipped divers returned from the ground after checking every single sqm of the dam.

Everything checked, no impact. Feel safe! 5555

As it suddenly collapses, due to cheap raw materials not intended for build. giggle.gif

Sounds like if the dam did collapse it would really make your day. clap2.gif

In almost every country, any quake over a 2 requires a dam inspection. This guy looked at the design specs, gave a short statement, and went back to linked in or whatever else he wasn't doing.

I am glad the dam is stable. Move along, nothing to see here, this time.

Not at all Mikey.... but to be so confident as he is.. well, the richter is well below any dam's construction in the normal world.

Dam collapses kill and, so no, I wouldn't be in a terribly good mood. I just found it bemusing that he made such an assertive comment to quickly.

Lord knows, we've seen many an assertive comment lately that back-tracked to the propositioner. ;)

No. It would just be a dam shame.

Dam if you do and dam if you don't.

Following a more serious discussion, the point being made subtlely is that design does not necessarily equate to construct. Especially in a third world country that has persuasive corruption throughout its society. Thailand has had its share of engineering failures not due to design but to the quality and workmanship of construction.
