ubonr1971
The wife had a cyst on the left breast. After ultrasound the dr asperated the fluid out and the cyst disappeared. The next day the milk expressed from that breast was red colour. The dr said that the milk was obstructed. 3 days later the other breast was painful and some parts of it was hard. The dr put heat packs on and gave injection of augumentin and expressed the milk out. Now the dr prescribed 1000mg of the same antibiotic. Is it safe to breastfeed our precious baby? thanks and sorry for spelling mistakes. too tired to care. baby is crying...

Sheryl
AUgmentin is a combination of 2 drugs, amoxicillin and clavulanate. Clavulanate has not been shown to cross into breast milk. Amoxocillin does enter breast milk but in very small quantities, and it is included in the American Academy of Pediatrics list of drugs that are "usually safe" for lactating women http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/108/3/776/T6.full
