Domestic vehicles sales fall in July

BANGKOK: -- Domestic sales of vehicles dropped 0.5 per cent in July, as demand decline for the fifth straight month due to high oil prices and rising interest rates, according to Toyota Motor Thailand.

Vehicle sales amounted to 50,638 units, with declines in every category except passenger cars.

Commercial vehicle sales dropped 3.3 percent, while sales of one-tonne pickups fell 2.7 per cent, Toyota said.

High inflation and flooding in northern Thailand also pushed down June sales.

Vehicles sales for the first seven months of this year amounted to 385,414 units, down 2.9 per cent from the same period last year, due to economic slowdown which weakened consumers' purchasing power, Toyota added.

I wonder what success other makes are having?

Toyota was the only make where there was a waiting time for delivery when we were looking to buy a new pickup this time last year, so I would guess that others are feeling the pinch even more than Toyota.

My impression is that the second-hand market is well down, too. There seem to be a lot more quite-recent cars and pickups on the forecourts these days. Does anybody have any statistics?
