Alternatives to Panthip Plaza?

Just wondering if anyone knew of IT places that compare to Panthip Plaza in Bangkok?

As much as I find the place a useful resource it doesn't have what I want. They brand items which are all the same now and apart from some high-end laptops the premium equipment is mostly mid-range now and just duplicated.

Fortune Town Mall is where I prefer to do my IT shopping. Not as hectic as Pantip, nor is it the tourist magnet.

Alternatively, if you know what you want, there is InvadeIT.co.th

Never been to Zeer. A tad out of the way. I keep telling myself I do need to get out there for a look see.

Have been to Sim Lim and Funan in Singapore. I much prefered Funan over Sim Lim.

Book a flight to Kuala Lumpar. "Plaza Low Yat" is comparable in size to Pantip but the retailers stock *everything* and the prices are cheaper than Thailand.

For example; Whilst on a Visa run I picked up a Logitech gaming mouse - not available in Thailand - and the price was cheaper than the best price on eBay.co.uk.

If I'm shopping for something "serious," like a laptop or hard drive, I go to Fortune. It's on the MRT. No in-your-face hawkers like Panthip. Also there is a full-scale Tesco in the same building.

I've only seen Rangsit from the outside. When I'm on a bus coming from the north it'll stop there to let people off, and it is quite a ways from central Bangkok. Maybe not so much for you guys with cars.

I'll drop into Panthip once in a while just to look around, maybe pick up cheap junk. I like the idea of a Third World-type market selling tech stuff. In Hong Kong there is a street market like this. Again, not a place to buy serious gear.

Prices in Malaysia, including Low Yat, aren't that different from Thailand prices, not worth a trip on price point. But if you're buying a laptop there it will have an English-only keyboard.

Funan Center in Singapore used to be much cheaper before the big renovation way back in the 90's.

Pantip no longer has any real draw, the prices are exactly the same as the big malls so the aggravation of getting there is not worth your time. None of the shops really discount and even the repair shops aren't that good.

Besides my wife says they are planning to renovate Pantip and make it a regular mall. Lots of changes the last time I went there two weeks ago.

Invade IT seems to be overpriced in my opinion and seems to sell the same limited inventory that the rest of the shops in Thailand sell.

I'm trying to have some items shipped here, hopefully other than the delayed shipping there won't be any problems.

used to go to Zeer a lot.............. they have a very good spare parts and 2nd hand spares there, last Motherboard the cradle for my Heatsink broke on my AMD, everywhere I tried, said NO only 'Intel' spares, must buy new motherboard... about 2 years ago..... found it at Zeer for 20 baht !!

Then opened Pantip 2 at Nonthaburi, about 5 - 6 years ago, which was fine

now a day there are so many 'Advice' IT shops not worth driving so far as very little difference in price + they will get you more or less anything they do not carry in stock + if anything goes wrong no more 2 or 3 long drives to get a replacement..

as said before if you know what you want and/or can explain 'Invade IT' is very good + delivered to your door but bit more expensive

Zeer Rangsit is good. Plenty of floors for IT related goods, sports goods, some nice restaurants inside, market outside and great food market. I've bought laptops, desk top, peripherals, printers etc and always got a good deal. Apple have a store their and a repair facility too.

If you happen to be in KL, Malaysia, Low Yat Plaza is a must-stop-in for anything IT. It's a dizzying, fascinating 6 story bazaar. Allow yourself several hours. There's a decent food court in the basement. I love that place. We have NOTHING like it anywhere in the USA. The wonderful monorail stops right outside.

In Chiang Mai I would bounce around between Pantip, Icon, Computer City IT (?), various phone shops scattered through the malls, and Siam TV.
