Dropped in for lunch yesterday with an old friend and was pleasantly surprised by the 'New' Hindley.

The dinning area has been expanded and most is now air con with an open area to one side.

Menu is small version of old one and food is usual good standard.

Excellent service by young lady with owners appearing later for a chat.

Only matter that disappointed was that it is no longer possible to park inside so parking on road outside is now required.

They now have a 'Cottage' available for rent in the grounds.

I would publish photos if I knew how too.

Usual disclaimers from a man who enjoys good food.

I visited this place with friends 5 or 6 years ago, loved the food, but both myself and a friend have tried to locate it again and end up giving up because we can't.

Any chance of some directions

Thanks in advance, would really like to go again some time

If you know where Bake and Bite - near the river - is, it is a block or so before you get there and you can follow the Bake and Bite signs. Otherwise it is difficult to explain. It is very close to a really tall condo building to, but I don't know the name.

It is close to Floral Condo, which is one of (maybe the) the tallest buildings in CM, visible for miles. It is in the Wat Ket area, just east of the river. If you were standing in front of Floral Condo, then walk along the road towards the temple at the end and the river. It is on the LHS a short walk from the condo. The sign for Hinlay is now much more prominent than previously. I have eaten there twice since it reopened and it is well worth going to.

Heading from the river towards Arcade bus station, leave Kaewnawarat Road at soi 2 on your right. Go to the end of the road and turn right at the t-junction. It's on your left next to 137 Pillars.

Hinlay is awesome - been around a long time

Lots of curries that range from 80-120 baht - the usual chicken, lamb, fish, etc

Very good food, I am excited they are back

I understand that Hinlay is a Burmese curry adopted by Thai phak neua. Locally known known as "gaeng hung-lay". There is also a Burmese run eatery at the corner of Sri Phum soi 1 and Moon Muang soi 9 (on the southern side of the road and one from the corner and on Moon Muang soi9) that does a nice Hinlay. It is on the menu as Hinlay curry. Might be more convenient for some. I intend to try the one near 137 pillars ASAP. Thanks for the heads up people.

Hinlay is a "Curry House" but not specifically only for "Indian Curries" as it would be in most Countries around the World. They do sell Indian/ Pakistani/ Bangladeshi type curries ( NOTE: not all of what we call "Indian" come from India, many come from the other two Countries mentioned) but they also at different times dependent on availability of spices etc have Curries from Burma, Indonesia and Malaysia too.

Prices are quite low, but then again so are portions too. One is not normally enough for a normal adult. The best option is to order several and share. In the past, Hinlay didnt do starters such as Samosas etc, but now they do. Also in the past, they did that fried Roti bread only which I dont like, but now they do various types of Naan breads, which is a big improvement.

My only disappointment with the new design is the removal of car parking, which, considering that they have a huge amount of grounds seems a bizarre decision so now your only choice is to leave your car outside in what are quite busy narrow sois.

Completely wrong unless they've changed their location, iv'e never seen the road outside busy and it certainly is not narrow !

The Swan Burmese restaurant [ a couple of doors down from El Diablos] also does a Hinlay, I was a bit underwhelmed by their menu when I paid a solo visit there around 18 months ago and tried just one dish. But recently I tried it again with a group of people with a wider variety of dishes and was impressed with the food, the Hinlay was good.

I would say that it is somewhat narrow - typical for Thailand - but not busy - at least when I have been on it. I can't see parking as a problem though.

Well I would say that with cars parked on either side that you can still get 2 cars through so compared with some sois that's a motorway biggrin.png
