Bodies from AirAsia crash arrive in Surabaya

JAKARTA: -- The first two bodies from the AirAsia plane that crashed off the coast of Borneo arrived on Wednesday in the Indonesian city of Surabaya, where relatives have gathered to await news of their loved ones, The Jakarta Globe reported.

Rescuers believe they have found the plane on the sea floor off Borneo, after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters near where debris and bodies were found on the surface.

Ships and planes had been scouring the Java Sea for Flight QZ8501 since Sunday, when it lost contact during bad weather about 40 minutes into its flight from Surabaya to Singapore.

Seven bodies have been recovered from the sea, some fully clothed, which could indicate the Airbus A320-200 was intact when it hit the water. That would support a theory that it suffered an aerodynamic stall.

Tatang Zaenudin, an official with Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, said earlier that one of the bodies had been found wearing a life jacket. But he later said no victim had been recovered with a life jacket on.

Two bodies, in coffins bedecked with flowers and marked 001 and 002, arrived by an air force plane in Surabaya.

Most of the 162 people on board were Indonesians. No survivors have been found.

The black box flight data and cockpit voice recorder have yet to be found.

There seems to be a lot of speculation that it stalled, and remember it is only that, speculation, it looks like the truth will come out as it is apparently in shallow water, about 50m deep and relitlivily intact, as far as the debre field is concerned anyway. I find it very strange that a person in this situation could have physically got a PFD on, considering the forces that would have been on them.

Also not, that when stalled is reported many people assume they are talking about the engines, this is not the case, simply not enough air going over the wings to support it, so it looses height, commonly directly related to airspeed and normally pilot error. It is more than likely that this will be pilot error, putting them selves into a area of strong up/down drafts, descending, disconnected the auto pilot and decreased airspeed.

More likely that wind shear caused the plane to stall. The pilot was asking to climb so would not be slowing down.

Hey if Chao Lao Beach is such a great area you should keep quiet about it, next thing you know it will be screwed up like many other popular areas that were once quiet and peaceful.

i did read 40 bodies found now its 7, wonder why ? poor reporting again,? feeling for those who lost loved ones.

The media have consistently misreported the facts of this rescue/recovery effort, and I suspect that a large part of that has been the willingness of some Indonesian officials to tell them anything to get their names in print. It's pathetic, and the exact opposite of what would be happening if the SAR was being run by people who had been elected based on merit instead of their ability to buy votes and influence.
